Javonte Williams Must Have A Prove It Year For Fantasy Trust
Javonte Williams has fallen from grace; he was drafted with the highest regard, but now, he appears to be snake-bitten. This player had 25 broken tackles and 3.42 yards after contact before his injury. He returned last season and finished as RB29, which isn’t what the fantastic return managers had wanted.
Another year removed from his ACL/PCL tear should allow him to return to the aggressive, angry running style he showcased previously. He has yet to have his full breakout, even though we saw glimpses of it in 2021; this is a contract year for Williams. He knows that now is the time to put up or shut up, and that should scare him as the value of running backs has steadily declined in recent years.
Denver’s offense will not be good again, but Williams should be able to pull away from the workload. If his efficiency returns to him, he can be an asset. Unfortunately, his yards per touch have decreased yearly (5.0, 4.4, 3.8). Again, this is mainly due to injury rather than a lack of talent. In one QB redraft leagues, he is the 90th player on the board, which could be slightly rich for managers, but if they have a consistent roster base, he could be worth the upside play.
Interestingly enough, Williams is also the 90th player on the board in Superflex dynasty. This is essentially Javonte’s third season since he only played in 4 games during his second year in the league, but regardless if he can’t perform at the level we saw before he could be out of a job in Denver and struggling to get signed. He does not have a safe floor, but his upside is juicy.
Our consensus projections for Williams in the 2024 season are 221 carries for 1,086 yards and 8 touchdowns. In the receiving game, his consensus projection is 36 receptions for 210 yards and 3 touchdowns.
