Jaylen Warren Could Get More Opportunities For Fantasy Value
Jaylen Warren burst onto the scene last season with 210 touches, 1154 scrimmage yards (5.5 yards per touch), and 4 touchdowns. His presence in the backfield makes many Najee Harris owners extremely nervous, especially with the reintroduction of Arthur Smith, who is on record saying he doesn't care about your fantasy team. Well, we do, and Warren can be a contributor for your team as a late-round add, considering his ADP in redraft is around the 99th player off the board.
Even with the criticism Smith faced Bijan still managed 83 targets, Russ threw 447 passes last year and 150 (33% of his passes) went to his running backs. Warren and Najee nearly split snaps last year, 52% for Najee and 48% for Warren. Obviously, Harris is the better short-yardage goalline back. However, Warren has shown explosiveness whenever he touches the ball (as evident with over 300 career touches and still carrying a 5.5 yards per touch). Even though he was the primary passing downs back, Warren did not score a single receiving touchdown, which can't hold up with such an effective player.
The usage may not increase as we would like to see after a breakout season, but the offense should be better with Russ or Fields than it was with Pickett, Rudolph, and Trubisky. Warren finished as the RB22 with less than 50% snaps and only 4 touchdowns; there is certainly a little room to grow with a solid RB2 floor.
Our consensus projections for Warren in the 2024 season are 170 carries for 889 yards and 5 touchdowns. In the receiving game, his consensus projection is 56 receptions for 351 yards and 3 touchdowns.
