Jets Awarded NFL Most Prime-Time Games In 2023

Updated: Jun 27, 2023

We have known for a while now who the Jets are playing this year, but after the NFL hosted their annual schedule release show last night, we now know when New York will get to face each of their opponents in the 2023 regular season. Since acquiring quarterback Aaron Rodgers from the Packers, it was rumored that New York would be no stranger to the bright lights of prime-time football. In 2023, the New York Jets will be featured in prime time a league-max six times.

The Jets On Monday Night

New York opens up the 2023 season at home with a divisional game against the Buffalo Bills on Monday Night Football. The Jets have not appeared on MNF since playing the Patriots in November of 2020. The Jets and Bills split the season series just a year ago, so it will be interesting to see how everything plays out this year since both of these teams should be fighting tooth and nail for a division crown.

The Jets’ second and final Monday Night Football game of the season comes in week nine at home against the Los Angeles Chargers. A Herbert vs. Rodgers matchup here will be fun to watch as the Jets and Chargers battle it out at MetLife Stadium.

New York’s Return To Sunday Night Football

The Jets will appear on Sunday Night Football for the first time since 2011 when they had three Sunday prime-time games that season against the Cowboys, Ravens, and Patriots. New York will be taking on the defending Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs, at home during their week four matchup. With the Chiefs on the Jets’ schedule this season, there’s no way the NFL was passing up an opportunity to place Mahomes vs. Rodgers in a prime-time matchup.

New York’s second appearance on Sunday Night Football this year will come in Week Ten following their MNF contest vs. the Chargers. The Jets will be taking on the new-look Las Vegas Raiders in Sin City. With Derek Carr going to New Orleans, the Raiders made a change at the quarterback position just like the Jets did this off-season. So it will be Rodgers vs. Garoppolo, but I’m sure the NFL remembered that a Sauce Gardner vs. Davante Adams matchup will be the main attraction in this one.

Football On A Friday?

The NFL is introducing its first-ever Black Friday game this season and they have chosen the Week 12 matchup between the Jets and Dolphins. New York gets to host their division rivals and the competitiveness of this contest may count on how healthy Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagloviola will be at this point in the season.

Jets cornerbacks Sauce Gardner and D.J. Reed vs. Miami WRs Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle are also two notable matchups to watch for throughout the course of this game. The Black Friday game will begin at the unique time of 3 pm and will be available to stream on Amazon Prime.

Thursday Night In Cleveland

New York will wrap up their prime-time slate vs. the Browns during their Week 17 matchup. In the second-to-last week of the season the Jets will be playing on Thursday Night Football for the first time. The Browns did not get Deshaun Watson back from suspension until late last season, but with a full year in Cleveland under his belt, the Jets will look to contain the mobile quarterback.

America’s Team? An Honorable Mention

Just two weeks after playing the Chiefs, Gang Green will be playing the team that lost to them in the Super Bowl, the Philadelphia Eagles. New York’s Week Six matchup vs. the Eagles was picked to be FOX’s America’s Game of the Week. While this is not considered a prime-time game, it is nationally televised, so the Jets will be broadcasted throughout the country after the 1 pm slate that Sunday afternoon.
