Jets Team MVP Will Enter 2024 With A Chip On His Shoulder

New York released their team awards for the 2023 season on Friday morning with LB Quincy Williams taking home the Curtis Martin MVP award. Despite a breakout season, Williams did fall short of making his first Pro Bowl appearance.

Snubbed From The Pro Bowl

Williams had himself a heck of a season in 2023, tallying 131 total tackles (91 solo), 15 tackles for loss, 10 pass deflections, two sacks, two forced fumbles, and an interception. The third-year Jet has been a force this season and should arguably be making the trip down to Orlando.

Instead, Roquan Smith and Patrick Queen of the Ravens will be representing the AFC at the linebacker position this year. In this post by ESPN’s Rich Cimini comparing the Jets linebackers to the Ravens, you can see that Quincy is right in the conversation with the Baltimore duo.

Williams’ 91 solo tackles rank fifth-best in the league while Smith and Queen sit at ninth and 18th-best respectively. He also leads the NFL in defensive stops against the run with 51 which, according to Pro Football Focus, is nine more than the next defender.

Quincy, along with five other Jets teammates, did get elected as alternates for the Pro Bowl Games, so there is a path in which Williams could obtain the accolade that he’s worked so hard for this season.

Looking Ahead

It’s not all bad news for Williams, as I’ve mentioned earlier, his Jet teammates voted him as the team’s MVP and he should be on his way to being an All-Pro this year as well.

After the season that he’s had, not making the Pro Bowl is a tough pill to swallow, however, Quincy is handling it in a way that fans could only hope for, by channeling it into next season.

Quinnen Williams (Quincy’s brother) said that it’s “just going to add fuel to the fire” in regards to how his brother is going to respond to being a Pro Bowl snub.

"I wrote down all the linebackers that people thought were better than me and decided I want to be the No. 1 linebacker this season. Every day I had a plan to maximize my oppurtinity." - Jets LB Quincy Williams

Quincy entered this season with this mindset and you better believe he will be on a mission to prove it true in 2024.
