Jimmy Jacobs Departs AEW

All Elite Wrestling has had a weird 2024. They officially got the gigantic media rights deal locked up, but they also have had some notable departures in 2024. This latest departure is another big one behind the scenes. Jimmy Jacobs, who is a notable producer and member of AEW Creative, has officially departed the company.

According to recent reports, the reason why Jacobs left AEW is due to burnout and the company wants to change directions in the writer's room Jacobs submitted his resignation last week and has finished up with the company.

Jacobs has been a part of AEW since June of 2023 and it's stunning he didn't join earlier. Maybe it was because of the contract he signed with TNA/Impact Wrestling at the time, but his departure from WWE made him bookmarked to join AEW. Remember when he got fired by WWE in 2017 for taking a photo with The Elite? Yes, that happened, and when Vince saw it he was angry. It was perplexing because Jacobs had a ton of brilliant ideas in WWE at that time. The one that stands out is the Festival of Friendship segment between Chris Jericho and Kevin Ownes.

This is a big departure because Tony Khan publicly called Jimmy Jacobs one of his right-hand men in the creative department for the past two years. Losing him is a blow to the creative department. The key words to take away are that Jimmy Jacobs was "burned out" in his role. Being burned out is not fun, and a change of scenery is beneficial for him and probably for AEW too, because the creative hasn't been great for 2024.

Jacobs has been a big part of the creative scene, but he is also a notable part-time wrestler that Tony Khan used to increase brand recognition for the Ring of Honor brand.

As for Jimmy Jacobs, he will likely get picked up by a promotion to help in the creative department. He could return to TNA wrestling or book an independent promotion. Out of all the promotions, Jimmy Jacobs going to Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling would make the most sense, given his connection to Scott D'Amore. However, it's likely he won't join for at least a few months, with him being burned out. It all depends on what Jacobs wants to do next and when he is ready to start the next chapter of his career.
