Joe Flacco Being On The Cleveland Browns Next Season Is a Bad Idea

This is not a hate piece on Joe Flacco; this is precisely the opposite. Flacco did wonders for the Cleveland Browns after coming off the couch late in the season after the starting quarterback, Deshaun Watson, went out with a season-ending injury.

Flacco just turned 39, so he's pretty old for an NFL player. A team could want him to be their bridge starter next season. If no team wants him to start, the Browns shouldn't call him back to join the team next season.

Flacco did nothing wrong, and this isn't about him. It's about the guy who wears number four and goes by Deshaun Watson.

Watson has played 12 games since 2020, and in one of those games, he didn't even make it out of the first quarter because his shoulder was so bad, so he only had 11 games played.

Watson could have been better in those 11 games. He has shown some flashes, but his overall performance has yet to live up to the hype and the reason why he was brought in.

Watson is heading into year three with the team, a make-or-break year for him. Hopefully, he stays healthy and plays an entire season, but at the same time, he has to show us his ability and why he was traded for three first-round picks and was given a guaranteed 230 million dollars.

In year one of Watson in Cleveland, he was suspended for eleven games for off-the-field reasons, so that was a throwaway year. Year two was supposed to be all about Watson, and getting him back to the player he was in Houston but injuries screwed that up, so now the Browns have to focus on that in the 2024 season.

Flacco Would Have To Be The Backup

Flacco would not be the starter for the Browns unless Watson isn't ready to go, and it doesn't seem like that will be the case so that Flacco would be backing up Watson.

Flacco can start the first week of the season if Watson gets injured. The Browns aren't sitting on their 230 million dollar investment for Flacco. It isn't happening. Flacco would be the backup, and here is the issue with that.

We all have seen how great Flacco was this season in his short time, and if Watson struggles out of the gate like he did in early 2023, everyone will be chanting the name of Flacco from the rooftops.

If you didn't know this, Watson is very sensitive, and if you haven't seen his Twitter, He calls out people who say the littlest about him and has blocked most Cleveland Browns reporters.

Watson can't take any negative towards him, and he will shut down if anyone starts chanting for his backup quarterback to come in.

Watson already struggles on the field, some of which comes from his mind. He will be done if his fans start going against him, and the Browns will be screwed.

Nobody will be chanting Dorian Thompson-Robinson's name when Watson throws three picks in Week One, and that is how Watson wants it.

If Watson weren't so sensitive to things, Flacco would be a good backup, but this is the same man treated like a five-year-old since arriving in Cleveland. The Browns are protecting him from any tough questions about things that happen on or off the field, and they aren't going to bring in a backup quarterback who fans probably want to start over him.
