Joe Mixon Can Continue Workhorse Status In Houston
Joe Mixon was traded this offseason and arguably landed in a better situation than before. After being traded to the Texans, they signed him to a 3-year extension, creating stability for at least the next 2 seasons. Mixon has finished as an RB1 in 5 of his 7 seasons; one was his rookie year, and the other, he got injured and missed 11 games.
Last season Mixon finished as the RB6 overall with 7 RB1 weekly finishes, he did this in an offense that was constantly out of sync or injured. The Texan need a difference-maker at the position, and Damon Pierce has effectively lost his role. Due to the dangerous trio of pass catchers this team has, Mixon will not be facing stacked boxes.
CJ Stroud will be the focal point for defenses much like Burrow, this takes pressure away from Mixon both mentally and on the field. Mixon averages around 264 touches a season at 4.6 yards per touch, giving him 1218 scrimmage yards. The Texans scored 10 team rushing touchdowns last season but with how good the offense profiles to be Mixon has a chance at 10 rushing touchdowns himself.
Add in round 40 receptions, and Mixon is primed to be a low-end RB1 or RB2 with week-winning upside. His ADP in dynasty superflex is 81, which makes sense due to his age, but he has value for the next 3 years in the best-case scenario, which gives savvy managers two chances at winning and one to move him for value to replenish assets. In one QB redraft league, he's the 49th player off the board. This is a screaming value. He will likely be a key member of many championship rosters.
Our consensus projections for Mixon in the 2024 season are 255 carries for 1,032 yards and 8 touchdowns. In the receiving game, his consensus projection is 45 receptions for 340 yards and 3 touchdowns.
