Jonathon Taylor Reminds Fantasy Managers Who He Is
JT is a forgotten name in fantasy football circles. In his first two seasons in the league, he finished RB5 (rookie year) and RB1 overall with 2980 rushing yards and 29 touchdowns AND 76 receptions, 659 receiving yards, and 3 touchdowns. For the next two seasons, Jonathon Taylor has been dealing with injury issues (two high ankle sprains in 2022 and a torn ligament in his thumb in 2023). During this stretch, he has 9 RB1 finishes.
Before his thumb injury, he was RB 7, 21, 10, 15, 6, then missed three weeks, came back, and was RB 22, 12, and 3 during the fantasy playoffs. JT and Anthony Richardson have yet to play together; when they are both on the field, Shane Stiechan's option run game will wreak havoc on defenses. Yes, having a rushing QB can hurt JT’s touchdown upside so 18 seems like a stretch but there is no reason why he can’t hit 10 touchdowns in a healthy season with this system.
In his RB1 overall season, he averaged 5.8 yards per touch on 372 touches for 2172 yards and 20 touchdowns. I see no reason why he can’t surpass that workload, Tyler Goodson and Evan Hull are not going to take many carries from JT the rushing share should be split between AR and JT; Taylor is fully healthy and ready to go with a new deal 65% of the carries is totally within the realm of possibilities. Seeing him go in the third round in Superflex dynasty startups is exciting stuff if you like younger win-now builds. In one QB redraft, he should be a back-end first-round pick.
Our consensus projections for Taylor in the 2024 season are 324 carries for 1,419 yards and 12 touchdowns. In the receiving game, his consensus projection is 52 receptions for 444 yards and 3 touchdowns.
