Jordan Addison's Speed Could Impact His Fantasy Success
Addison comes from a successful rookie season in which he finished WR23 in half-ppr formats. Addison did this on the back of 70 receptions for 911 yards and 10 touchdowns despite not reaching a 75% snap share until Week 5 and losing Kirk Cousins in Week 8. Addison will now receive passes from either Sam Darnold or JJ McCarthy, as Cousins has signed a 4 year, $180 million contract with the Falcons.
Addison saw a significant drop in his production once Cousins went down with an Achilles injury. In Weeks 1 - 8 with Cousins, Addison was the WR10. In Weeks 9 -18 without Cousins, Addison was WR37 (half-PPR formats). He topped 70 receiving yards just once in Weeks 9 -18 (9 games), whereas he topped that mark 3 times in his first 8 games with Cousins.
Now Darnold and McCarthy both have their red flags, however, they should both be a considerable upgrade from the mix of quarterbacks the Vikings had replaced Cousins with last year. Those quarterbacks were mostly Joshua Dobbs, Nick Mullens, and Jaren Hall. Addison should be able to find the middle ground between his first 8 weeks and his final 9 weeks.
He will be a vital part of this offense to begin the season, with TJ Hockenson likely to miss the first 6 games due to an ACL injury he suffered in Week 16 last year. Addison will benefit from the added targets, but if he wants to return to WR23, he will need to repeat his touchdown efficiency, which is not likely with the QBs on the roster right now. Addison’s ADP is currently 8.02 overall, and the WR41 is off the board. Addison carries above-average risk with average reward.
Our consensus projections for Addison in the 2024 season would be: 70 receptions, 851 yards, 6 touchdowns through the air and 1 carry for 2 yards and 0 rushing touchdowns.
