Josh Downs Has A Lot Of Competition For Fantasy Value
Josh Downs, in his rookie season, really showcases a ton of potential. Downs was targeted 98 times and had 69 receptions for 771 yards and 2 touchdowns. Downs had a stretch from Week 3 to Week 8, where he had double-digit fantasy points in 5 out of 6 of those weeks (WR32, WR18, WR30, WR4, WR30). Most of this came from playing in the slot.
Downs really did well in the slot, which helped him get more receptions, making him a PPR target for many. Josh Downs is in line to have a stronger season, but there are two main problems.
First, the Colts used two draft picks at the wide receiver position, Adonai Mitchell and Anthony Gould, so Downs could potentially lose snaps to either of them. The Colts project to be a run-heavy unit with a stable WR1, a new deep threat, and a capable pass-catching running back.
The second problem with taking Downs is that the quarterback for the team he plays with is still unknown. Anthony Richardson is coming off a shoulder injury, and even when he played, he still looked a little Raw. Time will tell if the connection between him and Richardson will be strong, but he should be a decent depth piece to use as a late-round selection in fantasy.
Our consensus projections for Downs in the 2024 season are 65 receptions, 691 yards, and 3 touchdowns.
