Juwan Johnson Has An Interesting Fantasy Outlook

Juwan Johnson was supposed to be the breakout tight end last year with the new addition of Derek Carr as the Saints' quarterback. Derek loves throwing to his tight ends, and Johnson was the clear starter, so it made sense he was a breakout target. However, he was injured and just didn’t do much when on the field.

Johnson came through for people in the fantasy playoffs, scoring touchdowns in all three games and having a big-time game in the championship week, going 8 for 90 and scoring a touchdown, but he didn’t do much else for most of the season.

From Weeks 1-8, he was hurt and unplayable when he was healthy. Weeks 9-18, he had 5 TE1 finishes, including a TE5 and TE1 overall. Coincidentally, this coincided with Derek Carr's best weeks of the year.

There was hope Johnson could build on his strong end to the season, but he got hurt this off-season and is now going to miss time in training camp. The idea of Johnson sounds great, but the product has been up and down so far, and that probably won’t change. Outside of a late-round pick in Best Ball and re-draft, there isn’t much value with Johnson unless he can stay healthy and be consistent.

Our consensus projections for Johnson in the 2024 season are 35 receptions, 345 yards, and 4 touchdowns.
