This Texans Rookie Is Turning Heads With His Minicamp Performance
2024 second-round pick Kamari Lassiter looks to embark on a successful rookie campaign as he shows in minicamp that he could potentially be a starter on the depth chart in Week 1 for the Houston Texans.
The former Georgia Bulldog stood out at minicamp, especially when it came to covering two-time All-Pro and newcomer to this Texans team Stefon Diggs.
Lassiter deflected away some passes intended for Diggs that impressed fans and media including this play.
Lassiter at Georgia was an integral part of one of the greatest defenses that college football has ever seen.
Over his three seasons in Athens he had 15 passes defended, 85 tackles, and one interception.
The one interception is explainable as he became known as "Locksmith" due to his ability to cover receivers and force quarterbacks to go elsewhere. In fact, in his last season at Georgia, he did not allow a single touchdown.
With spring camp just over a month and a half away, the two-time national champion is looking to prove he can start in the secondary for the 2023 AFC South Champions. The Texans's pass defense was ranked 23rd in the NFL in 2023.
General manager Nick Caserio and second-year head coach DeMeco Ryans are adding Lassiter to an already dangerous defense.
The front seven already contains Will Anderson Jr., Danielle Hunter, Denico Autrey, and Azeez Al-Shaair up front.
Lassiter will be in the secondary with Derek Stingley Jr., Jalen Pitre, and fellow rookie defensive back from USC Caden Bullock, who was drafted in the third round.
