GlobL Jam Information Tidbits
• Don't look for UK blue or Kentucky on the player's uniforms. They will be representing the USA and will look the part of red, white, and blue.
• The competition will be 18 to 22 years old (under 23, or U23) professional players playing for spots on their country's teams. This is a recognized FIBA event played under its rules.
• There are four ten minute quarters instead of two twenty minute halves.
• The shot clock is 24 seconds instead of 30 seconds, and after an offensive rebound it is only 14 seconds.
• Goaltending/basket interference: There is no imaginary cylinder extending above the rim as in NCAA/NBA. Once the ball hits the rim after its downward flight, it is back in play and any player can smack it away or jam it in. There are also differences in timeouts, fouls, and bonus situations.
• The venue is small. Mattamy Athletic Centre in Toronto opened in 1931 and has a capacity of 2600. In contrast, Lafayette High School's gym in Lexington has a capacity of 2400.
• Louisville women's basketball team will be the women's team representing the USA.
* The Canadian team is currently holding a camp July 1-9th attended by 18 invited players, 12 of which will be selected for their Jam team. Thirteen of the players attend US colleges, and only one of those plays in a high-major conference.
Kentucky Basketball Team News
* Freshman 7-footer Aaron Bradshaw, one of the top recruits in the 2023 class and a possible NBA lottery pick next year, will not play in the GlobL Jam. Bradshaw is recovering from a foot injury suffered at the McDonald’s All-American Game in late March.
* Kentucky is set to have 10 available scholarship players for the GlobL Jam. Five of those players will be guards: Reeves and the freshman quartet of DJ Wagner, Rob Dillingham, Reed Sheppard and Joey Hart. Three will be wings: sophomore Adou Thiero and freshmen Justin Edwards and Jordan Burks. And two will be frontcourt players: Onyenso and Mitchell. In addition, the Cats will have their walk-on group, led by fifth-year senior Brennan Canada, who has appeared sparingly in games in his UK career.
