Kentucky WBB Has A Massive Program Building Week

Kentucky Basketball

The Kentucky Women's Basketball (WBB) team began the week 3-0, and where most would have predicted before the season began. New coach Kenny Brooks had the Wildcats ranked 20th in the new weeks AP poll. He had yet to secure any commitments for 2025 and with nearly 90 of the ESPN's top 100 for 2025 off the board, some were beginning to get worried.

A Mid-week Commitment and Signing

Five star rising prospect Kaelyn Carroll from Massachusetts picked the Cats over top programs like South Carolina, North Carolina, Ohio state and more. With over 40 offers, the 6'2" wing, who shot 44% from the three-point line, chose Kentucky and Coach Brooks.

Carroll has been chosen for the watch list for the Naismith high school player of the year, and is a top 15 prospect in the 2025 class. Her relationship with coach Brooks, and building something special in Lexington, helped the Wildcats win her commitment.

A Saturday Surprise Commitment

One of the best point guards in the 2026 class surprised many by picking Kentucky on Saturday, before the Louisville versus Kentucky game. The top 20 PG, Maddyn Greenway, picked the Cats over Iowa, UCLA, Stanford and others.

Maddyn is the daughter of ex-Minnesota Viking LB Chad Greenway. Both her father and mother played for Iowa. The 5'8" PG is a winner! Heading into her junior year of high school, she already has 3 state titles in basketball, and 1 each in soccer, and 300m hurdles in track and field.

Greenway surpassed over 3,000 points in her high school career last February, and has averaged over 30 plus points per game for 2 seasons. She plays fast, and loves the way Kenny Brooks has mentored Georgia Amoore. Maddyn is looking to build her own legacy and forge her own path.

A Signature Win Over Louisville 71-61

Kentucky overcame sloppy play and 24 turnovers to come from behind to get the win over the 18th ranked Louisville Cardinals in front of a sold our crowd at home in overtime 71-61. Georgia Amoore led the way with 19 points and nine assists, but also eight turnovers. Teonni Key also had 17 points and nine rebounds, but seven turnovers.

Coach Brooks played nearly the entire second half and overtime with his starters. It was the Wildcats first win over the Cards since 2015. The new coach left Virginia Tech to build something special in the Southeastern Conference with the crazed basketball blueblood "Big Blue Nation" fan-base.

Early in year one, it seems he is on his way with a massive week in mid-November. The national media is beginning to take notice, as March Madness Autumn Johnson, and On3 Talia Goodman were on hand Saturday night for the win over Louisville. As well as attracting top 15-20 recruits who are wanting to be a part of the culture in Lexington.
