Kentucky Wildcats News And Notes

Here are some news and notes from Kentucky Wildcats football and basketball.

Football Notes

* Kentucky had the first day of fall football camp yesterday, August 2nd, for the 2023 season. With Liam Coen back as Offensive Coordinator and Devin Leary set as the starter after transferring from North Carolina State there is a belief UK will get their offense back on track this season.

* We are 30 days away from the opening game of the season at Kroger Field on Sept 2nd, 2023. Where the Kentucky Wildcats will take on the Ball State Cardinals.

*Powell (Tenn.) three-star edge rusher Steven Soles (6-foot-1.5, 213) has committed to Kentucky over offers from South Carolina, Alabama, Miami, Virginia Tech, Mississippi State and many others. Soles is rated as the nation's No. 55 edge rusher by 24/7 composite rankings. He becomes Kentucky’s 15th commitment in the 2023 class.

* Stone Saunders, a four-star class of 2025 quarterback out of Harrisburg (PA) Bishop McDevitt, is set to commit on Friday Aug 4th at 6:25PM EST. The announcement will air live on ABC 27 News WHTM. Saunders is down to a top five that includes Kentucky, Georgia, Michigan, Nebraska, and Miami (FL). The Wildcats are getting projections as the leader.

Kentucky Wildcats Basketball Notes

* Kentucky and New Mexico State will meet in the 23-24 College Basketball season opener on Monday, November 6th, inside Rupp Arena. The game will serve as the Aggies' head coaching debut for Jason Hooten.

* Kentucky will also host Illinois State on Friday, December 29th inside Rupp Arena. This game is interesting because it was the home for UK guard Antonio Reeves for the first three years of his collegiate career.

* Kentucky Wildcats Basketball's 2023-24 Non-Conference Schedule

New Mexico State

Kansas (in Chicago)

Saint Joseph's

Stonehill

Texas A&M-Commerce

Miami (FL)

UNC Wilmington

CBS Sports Classic (in Atlanta)

@ Louisville

Illinois State

Gonzaga

Still some dates to fill out and likely 2 more games.

* A really cool opportunity for young Kentucky basketball fans (Grades 1-8). Oscar Tshiebwe will be returning to Lexington to host his first youth basketball camp alongside the current Kentucky team on August 27th for just $50.

* The big (literally) news of the week was Zvonimir Ivisic from Croatia committed to Kentucky and will join the 2023 roster. A 7-2, 220-pound big that is fluid & moves very well for his size. Ivisic plays outside-in and has high potential. He committed on Instagram and had this to say "I got the offer for scholarship by Coach Calipari to attend the University of Kentucky. I'm excited to tell that I accepted the scholarship and I will play there next season. Go Big Blue!!" He is great late addition to the roster with Ugonna Onyenso and Aaron Bradshaw both having foot injuries over the summer.
