Lamar Jackson Doesn't Care About Chiefs Vs Ravens Week One Matchup

The 2024 NFL schedule was released to the public on May 15. Some people looked forward to this day to start circling dates on their calendars, and others didn't care about the schedule or matchups. Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson was among the latter.

In a transcript from the team, Jackson said of the team's week one matchup against the Chiefs in Arrowhead, "I really don't care who we play; it really didn't matter. At the end of the day, our goal is to make it to the Super Bowl. We lost to them in the playoffs. Just us beating them in the regular season doesn't really do anything; it just helps us keep stacking up wins to hopefully make it to the playoffs, if anything, to try to get in that same position again and hopefully be successful."

Lamar Jackson Vs Chiefs

Jackson and the Ravens did lose in the AFC Championship game last season, 17-10. He finished the game 20/37 for 272 yards passing, with a touchdown and an interception. In his career against the Chiefs, he completed just 55.7% of his passes for 204 yards per game. Jackson has five touchdowns to three interceptions in those games and a record of 1-4.

Patrick Mahomes has undoubtedly gotten the best of the two-time MVP since 2018, with the Chiefs outscoring the Ravens 146-118. Despite rushing 55 times for 357 yards (6.5 yards per carry) and three touchdowns, Lamar can't deny that Kansas City has his number.

Lamar Jackson Week One

Jackson may be below average against the Chiefs, but he has been a real-life version of Superman in week one since becoming the team's starting quarterback. Joe Flacco started for the Ravens in week one of 2018, but Lamar has started the subsequent five years on opening day. Flipping the script, he has a record of 4-1 in the first week of the season.

Jackson has completed 76.9% of his passes for 243 yards per game to start every season, and he's also posted a 10:3 touchdown-to-interception ratio. He typically throws more and runs less early, with his best opening week coming courtesy of the Miami Dolphins. In week one of 2019, the former Heisman winner completed 17 of 20 passes for 324 yards and five touchdowns.

Lamar Jackson, Ravens, Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs

Lamar Jackson is 100% correct. Playing the Chiefs in week one doesn't matter. It's the first of 17 games, and the outcome won't decide anything. If the Ravens win by 50 or lose by 50, it will be a story for a week until both teams play their next game. That doesn't mean it won't be interesting to fans.

It will be exciting to see which version of Lamar we get, whether it's Lamar in week one or Lamar against the Chiefs. He's a two-time MVP and will be facing off against the best quarterback in the league. This game can't help but be a must-see TV show. Lamar Jackson may not care about this game, but a national television audience does, and this game will be off the charts.
