Giants Daniel Jones Historic Franchise Performance
New York’s Quarterback Daniel Jones was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week today. Jones’ dual effort led Big Blue to their fourth consecutive triumph, a 23-17 victory against the Jaguars in Jacksonville. D.J. is the first player in the Giant’s history with 200 passing yards and 100 rushing yards in a game.
D.J. completed 19 of 30 passes for 202 yards, a 32-yard touchdown to Darius Slayton on the game’s opening possession, and no interceptions; in the fourth consecutive game, he did not throw an interception. He also used his legs to help the Big Blue win. He set career highs with 11 rushing attempts for 107 yards (9.7-yard avg.), including a one-yard touchdown to put the G-Men ahead with 5:31 remaining in the fourth quarter.
Jones is one of three quarterbacks with at least 200 passing yards and 100 rushing yards in a game this season. The others are Arizona’s Kyler Murray and Baltimore’s Lamar Jackson (twice). D.J.’s 24-yard scramble in the fourth quarter was the G-Men’s longest run in Jacksonville. It is the 12th time Jones has had the longest run in a game.
This is the third time Jones has been selected Offensive Player of the Week. He won the award after his first NFL start in Week 3 of the 2019 season, when he threw two touchdown passes and ran for two scores at Tampa Bay, and again in Week 4 of the 2021 season after leading Big Blue to victory in New Orleans.
D.J. increased his season total to 343 rushing yards, the second-highest for an NYG quarterback in the Super Bowl era. Jones ran for 423 yards in 2020.
Daniel Jone’s 107 rushing yards are the fourth-highest total by a quarterback in Big Blue’s history and the most for a player at that position in 76 years. Harry Newman ran for 114 yards vs. Green Bay on November 11, 1934, and 108 yards at Boston on October 8, 1933. Frank Filchock also had 108 rushing yards at Pittsburgh on October 6, 1946.
Third P.O.W. Award Won by Big Blue This Season
Saquon Barkley won the NFC Offensive POW Award after rushing for 164 yards in the season-opening victory at Tennessee. A week later, Graham Gano was named the conference’s Special Teams Player of the Week after kicking four field goals, including 51 and 56-yarders, in a 19-16 victory against Carolina.
