Looking Back At The Worst Takes By Skip Bayless

Long-time sports analyst Skip Bayless is not returning to Fox Sports’ Undisputed. This is the second major show that he will not be returning. Bayless is a part of the new regime of analysts who made their mark more solely on debating and hot takes. There have been some takes where Bayless has been accurate or slightly accurate. Then, there are bad takes that make Bayless among the most controversial and mocked analysts in sports media. From the countless tirades over the Dallas Cowboys and the state of Texas overall, Baylor has shown some interesting things. If Skip does not return to the major spotlight, he will have some of the most legendary takes, mostly rough, of all time.

Looking Back At The Worst Takes By Skip Bayless

The Johnny Manziel Experience

When former Heisman trophy winner and Texas A&M Aggies quarterback Johnny Manziel entered the 2014 NFL draft, very few analysts were jumping on the Manziel sensation. Skip was among those analysts as his love for Texas and the Aggies was notoriously biased. Bayless said at a critical point during the post-2014 NFL draft evaluation that they would be a star in the league.

After Manziel was drafted with the 22nd overall pick by the Cleveland Browns, Skip went on a tirade defending the former Heisman trophy quarterback. He first said that the Houston Texans would forever regret passing on Manziel while ultimately going with the former South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney. Not only did he say that the Texans would regret their pick, but he also said Manziel would overshadow former Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James in popularity within the city of Cleveland.

Manziel only lasted two seasons, as his antics off the field certainly impacted his performance on the field. Manziel showed he wasn’t a serious NFL player. That same could be said for Skip as an analyst.

Skip's Gross Take During The Damar Hamlin Incident

One of his most inappropriate and disturbing takes during his Undisputed days was the night Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest on the field. Many sports fans will remember that horrific night and where they were exactly when it happened. While many watched with horror, Bayless gave a take that can ultimately be seen as regrettable to many. He said the NFL shouldn't delay or cancel the regular season matchup between the Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals.

This game had major AFC playoff implications this late in the season. That did not matter, however, as a player's life was hanging in the balance. Skip ultimately decided that the game and the postseason were the more immediate attention as he wanted a group of emotionally fatigued players to continue playing in front of shocked fans. Of all the comments he has made, this was by far the most irresponsible.

Skip Bayless's Bad Take On Phil Jackson Joining The Lakers

In one of his earliest takes, Bayless was a writer with the Chicago Tribune. At the Tribune, Skip had a solid center resume as he wrote about the great Michael Jordan during the peak era of the NBA. After the final days of the Chicago Bulls’ championship, the Bulls went in a completely different direction with their players and their coaching staff. One move that was made was the transition from Phil Jackson becoming the head coach of the Chicago Bulls to the Los Angeles Lakers.

What can only be described as the most notoriously bad take of all time from Skip, he said that Jackson would not be able to replicate his success and win a championship with the Lakers. To read the full quote, click on the link here.

It is certainly hard to make a championship run from one team to another. Very few coaches have been able to accomplish this in any sport. Jackson is one of three head coaches in the history of the NBA to win titles for two teams. He won six with Chicago and five with Los Angeles.

Jackson has helped develop elite players like Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant. Skip believes they were already special before Jackson coached them, but Skip failed to acknowledge Jackson properly guided them.
