Louisville Starts The Pat Kelsey Era Off With A Bang
The Louisville Cardinals opened their season tonight against in state opponent Morehead State. Pat Kelsey and company did not disappoint in front of the KFC Yum Center crowd.
Born Again
The Louisville Cardinals, in their opening game of the 2024-2025 season, beat Morehead State emphatically 93-45. Louisville fans saw things that they haven't been accustomed to for quite some time.
The Cardinals shot 45% from the field, created 20 turnovers and scored 29 points off those turnovers. They won the rebounding matchup as well, getting four more rebounds than Morehead State (49-45).
While Louisville struggled to shoot from outside the arc (just over 30%), they racked up 42 points in the paint. They also added 18 free throws for the night.
Over-exaggerated Opinion
I watched Louisville from start to finish. As excited as I was to see Louisville back in the win column, I also had to take a step back and make a rational decision. This Louisville team is good. Good enough to make the NCAA Tournament. With the tough schedule Louisville has, I believe it will be difficult getting ranked throughout the year.
This team plays, and plays with pace. They will take and make threes, of course, miss them too. They play relentless defense, well enough to compete in the ACC. On a good shooting night, Louisville can compete with multiple ranked teams in college basketball, the difficulty will be to hit shots consistently.
Had Me At Hello
Regardless of how this season plays out, I anticipate it will not be remotely close to what the Louisville Cardinals endured over the last two seasons. This brand of basketball was extremely refreshing and a ton of fun to watch.
Pat Kelsey has done a quite a bit of work to get to where we are at today. The least we could do is pack the house when Tennessee comes to the Yum! Center on Saturday for the White Out! Hopefully Louisville can keep the trend of good basketball to compete with a top-15 team in Tennessee.
