Marquise Brown Could Have Career Best Fantasy Year

The Kansas City Chiefs signed Marquise “Hollywood” Brown to a one-year, seven-million dollar contract this off-season. Brown is coming off a disappointing stint in Arizona, finishing no better than WR46 in the last two seasons (half-PPR formats). Unfortunately, he played just 7 games with Murray in 2022 and 3 games in 2023. Brown’s lack of success may have part to do with that, and the Cardinals had just 555 pass attempts last year (24th).

The Chiefs have been in the top 5 in pass attempts every season for 4 straight years, were 2nd last year, and had 80 more pass attempts than the Cardinals. The increase in pass attempts over the season should help give Brown a chance to jump back into at least WR3 territory, but it may be hard to predict when he will have a good week. Patrick Mahomes spreads the ball around, making his secondary options less consistent.

Brown has already struggled in the consistency category. Over the last two seasons, he’s played 25 games with at least a 50% snap share. Of those 25, he had just 7 weeks as a WR1 or 2, compared to 13 weeks as a WR4+. The Chiefs also have more depth at Wide Receiver than in the Mahomes era. Brown also only played 4 games with DeAndre Hopkins in their one year together, so this will be Brown’s first time operating as the WR2 for the majority of his career.

Sophomore WR Rashee Rice may be suspended to start the season, but it is unlikely to last more than 6 games at most. Rice had an impressive rookie year with 79 receptions, 93 yards, and 7 touchdowns. This year, the Chiefs bring in another rookie. They traded up in the draft with the Buffalo Bills to draft Xavier Worthy with the 28th overall pick.

If you don’t already know, Worthy broke the NFL combine record for fastest 40-yard dash with a blazing 4.21 seconds. He is blazing fast and will definitely be involved in Any Reid’s creative offense. Brown’s current ADP is 7.02 overall and WR36. Rice and Worthy are just barely behind him right now, at WR37 and 42 are off the board, respectively.

Our consensus projections for the 2024 season are 63 receptions, 804 yards, and 5 touchdowns through the air.
