MarShawn Lloyd Has Sneaky Fantasy Value In 2024
The Green Bay Packers selected MarShawn Lloyd with the 88th pick in the third round. He spent three years in college, where he racked up 291 carries for 1621 yards (5.6 yards per attempt) and 19 rushing touchdowns. He also added 34 receptions for 452 yards (13.3 yards per reception) and 2 touchdowns. The Packers also signed Josh Jacobs to a four-year contract this off-season.
But Matt LaFleur has always been a committee backfield proprietor, no matter how much better Aaron Jones was than AJ DIllion they would still practically split the position. Matt Lafleur recently said this on Lloyd ``He definitely can be a weapon out of the backfield,” said Matt LaFleur. “I love all the measurables. He’s a 220-pound back that runs 4.4 and can run routes out of the backfield. I think he could be a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses.”
Lloyd led all running backs in yards per catch in 2023 and averaged YAC per reception (17.8). With an elusive rating of a whopping 177 from PFF, Lloyd has the type of profile that has elite potential at 215 pounds with that type of shiftiness, especially within the Packers system. Lloyd has handcuff upside this year in case Jacobs goes down again. If Lloyd performs and Jacobs falls off, the Packers have a contractual out after Josh’s second year.
MarShawn will be 25 by the time he can have the lead role in this backfield, so his appeal is all about efficiency and passing down work. As second-round picks in rookie drafts go, there could be more contributors sooner than him. In start-ups, his 146th ADP is a bit high for a player who will have a crowded path to limited volume. In redraft leagues, he will be a waiver priority if an injury occurs.
Our consensus projections for Lloyd in the 2024 season are 98 carries for 480 yards and 4 rushing touchdowns. As well as 18 receptions, 153 yards, and 1 touchdown.
