Miami Might Just Have An Exciting Franchise RB
Updated: Jun 10, 2023
Miami’s Draft
With the 84th overall pick, The Miami Dolphins shocked fans by taking Devon Achane, one of the top projected running back prospects from the 2023 NFL draft. The shock came not because of the pick but the timing, Miami hasn’t taken a top running back prospect before the fourth round since 2005.
This was a surprise to many especially with the offensive line needing to be addressed. Nevertheless, fans were ecstatic, the Miami Dolphins finally taking a chance on a top running back prospect.
Achane’s Collegiate Career
Achane himself had an exceptional collegiate career, amassing 1102 rushing yards and eight touchdowns along with 36 receptions and three touchdowns in his senior year at Texas A&M, and now he joins a team with staff who love to run.
His new head coach in Miami, Mike McDaniel, former offensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers, has plenty of experience and success with his running backs. It would be no surprise if Achane finds himself being the new Swiss Army knife for Miami, as he ran a 4.32 40-yard dash and now joins arguably the fastest skill group in the NFL.
Status In Miami
With Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle drawing defenses to the passing game and McDaniel’s play calling, Achane should be in for a massive rookie season, especially with The Dolphin’s other rostered backs being much older. Currently, Raheem Mostert is the RB1 in Miami, followed by Jeff Wilson Jr. While both of these backs are exceptional players both are older, Mostert(31) and Wilson Jr.(27), they’ve also had a history of injury. All this could lead to Achane taking the reins as RB1 sooner rather than later.
In an offense built on speed, the eventual takeover for Achane could be massive. The Miami Dolphins have been building a strong roster with some of the most talented players in the NFL, and incoming rookies are able to learn and excel at a phenomenal rate.
With speedy wide receivers on the outside and elusive runners in the backfield, Achane should find immediate success as one of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa’s favorite targets.
Dynasty Value
Achane is currently being drafted between the 1.08 and 2.04 in 2023 rookie drafts. While some might consider the first round being too early, he might have exceptional value early on in the ‘23 season, especially in PPR formats. If Achane falls to the early second round he’ll most definitely be a worthwhile addition to any roster.
