MLB Pitcher Joins An Elite List With His Historic Feat

Major League Baseball has been around for nearly 150 years. Despite the thousands of games played, there have only been 24 perfect games in it's history. The most recent happened on Wednesday, June 28th, in Oakland, California when New York Yankees pitcher Domingo German retired all 27 Oakland Athletics batters in order. Remarkably, it was his first-ever nine-inning complete game as a professional and he did it in just 99 pitches.

German improved his record to 5-5 with a 4.54 earned run average in 15 starts. The Yankees now sit at 44-36 and third in the American League East. They would clinch a Wildcard Playoff Spot if the season ended today, but remain 9 and a half games back from the division leading Tampa Bay Rays.

Domingo German pitched the fourth perfect game in Yankees history and it was the first one in the MLB since 2012. He joins a small list of all-time greats to accomplish the rare feat.
