New York Yankees Provide Updates on Giancarlo Stanton and Jasson Dominguez Injuries
The New York Yankees are navigating a challenging summer, characterized by inconsistent performances and uncertainty regarding the direction of the 2024 season. However, recent updates on the injury statuses of outfielders Jasson Dominguez and Giancarlo Stanton offer a glimmer of hope for the team.
Giancarlo Stanton Must Return As The Cleanup Hitter
Giancarlo Stanton has been sidelined since June 23rd due to a left hamstring injury, which has kept him out of the lineup for over a month. The initial update indicated that Stanton would receive a platelet-rich plasma injection and would remain inactive for four weeks. Recently, however, Stanton was spotted taking batting practice during this week’s Subway Series, suggesting progress in his recovery.
When asked about Stanton's potential return to the lineup against the Boston Red Sox this week, Yankees manager Aaron Boone expressed uncertainty, stating he was “not necessarily expecting it.” This marks the eighth time in six seasons that Stanton has been placed on the injured list, following the previous season where he missed 43 games due to the same left hamstring issue.
Stanton's 2024 season had shown promise prior to his injury, as he had slimmed down and demonstrated improvement over the previous year. This season, he had a batting average of .246, an OPS of .795, and a slugging percentage of .492, along with 18 home runs.
In contrast, his performance in the 2023 season was marked by a batting average of .191, an OPS of .695, a slugging percentage of .420, and ended the season with 24 home runs. Fans remain optimistic that Stanton can reclaim his role as the cleanup hitter and contribute to scoring runs for the Yankees.
Top New York Yankees Prospect Jasson Dominguez Shows Rapid Recovery
Meanwhile, Jasson Dominguez, who was anticipated to fill Stanton's cleanup spot, has faced delays in his call-up due to a left oblique injury sustained in late June, coinciding with Stanton's injury. Recent developments indicate that Dominguez is making strides in his recovery, having participated in live batting practice on July 22nd in Florida.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone confirmed that Dominguez is scheduled to join the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre for games within the week.
Stanton and Dominguez Look To Power Swing Their Way Back In The Lineup
The updates on both Dominguez and Stanton bring a sense of optimism for the Yankees as they look to bolster the lineup in the coming weeks. While it remains uncertain if Dominguez will be called up to the majors, there is potential for his return in September, similar to last season. Stanton's progress suggests he may soon be ready to rejoin the lineup, aiming to help the New York Yankees reclaim their position atop the AL East.
