NFL MVP Power Rankings: Post Week 1

The first week of the 2024 NFL season is in the books and there were a LOT of incredible performances ranging from J.K. Dobbin's explosive debut with the Chargers, the Saints defense shutting down the Panthers offense, Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle's each hitting the century mark, and Jordan Mason running all over the Jets in first career start.

Even though it's only been one week, here is an early look at who's leading the race for Most Valuable Player. Note: this weekly list will change vastly by the end of the season.

Josh Allen

Allen had 232 passing yards and 2 passing touchdowns in the win

The Buffalo Bills quarterback had an impressive season debut against the Arizona Cardinals. After having the second most turnovers in the NFL last season with 22, Allen kept clean most of the game besides an early fumble. The 28-year-old had 271 total yards and four total touchdowns (two rushing, two passing) with a 137.7 passer rating in the 34-28 win. If he plays well every single week, Allen could be accepting his first MVP trophy.

T.J. Watt

TJ Watt was by far the best player on the field for Pittsburgh

The former defensive player of the year not only has a chance to once again be recognized as the best at his position but also as the league's best player in 2024. T.J. Watt had himself a day against the new-look Kirk Cousins-led Falcons' offense. In the first half, Watt recorded a triple crown--sacking Cousins, forcing a fumble, and recovering it-- before the officials determined he was offsides.

Watt was not done yet as he got redemption when Atlanta's receiver accidentally got hit with the snapped football allowing the former Wisconsin Badger to dive onto the football. Later on, the 29-year-old stripped-sacked Cousins again with another flag negating the play. Fortunately, Watt ended any hopes of a Falcons comeback with a huge sack on the last play of the game.

Tyreek Hill

Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle racked up 100+ receiving yards each for Miami

While many have debated who the best wide receiver in the NFL is, there was no doubt that Tyreek Hill had the best wide receiver performance other than maybe Jayden Reed (who was phenomenal in the air and on the ground). Hill had seven receptions for 130 yards and a touchdown including an 80-yard score that brought Miami back to life. While the former Chief did not hit his goal of 2,000 yards last season, Hill has a chance at achieving another goal: MVP.

Baker Mayfield

Baker Mayfield threw a league-high four touchdown passes

When people think of the quarterback leading the NFL in touchdown passes, you might think of Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow, or Dak Prescott. After one week of play, it is actually Baker Mayfield. The former first-overall pick had a near-perfect game throwing for 289 yards and four touchdowns with a 146.4 passer rating. While Mayfield is seen as a longshot for MVP, the former Cleveland Brown could make a case if he is consistent all season.

Greg Rousseau

A name most people might not have expected on this list, Greg Rousseau had a quiet but dominant season opener against the Arizona Cardinals. The 2021 first-round pick had the best game of his career with three sacks on Kyler Murray. The 24-year-old already has nearly tied his sack record from a year ago in just ONE game. He also had a strip-sack forced fumble on Murray late in the third quarter, which helped the Bills eventually take the lead. While Rousseau most likely won't win MVP, he has put himself in the conversion for DPOTY.
