NFL’s Five Best Valued 2023 Offseason Additions

Updated: Jun 28, 2023

After breaking down all 32 NFL teams’ moves so far, I have picked out the top-valued deals that have gone unnoticed in the flurry of moves that happens when the frenzy began. These are not the best players signed, but these are the most bang for the buck at the moment.

These players change the locker room DNA as a whole, not just the skill level of the team. This isn’t an ordered list, all of these players will be great additions to these teams.

Buffalo Adds An Engine

The Bills swooped in and stole a great payer from a division rival; Damien Harris is now in a Buffalo jersey, and as a Patriots fan, that one stings. I didn’t think he would stay in New England, but I knew someone would be getting a solid one-cut power back wherever he went. Unfortunately, that is precisely what I think the Bills are missing.

By adding Harris, they don’t have to run Allen as much; Damien will eat up the first and second down workload. It isn’t a tell because the defense can’t sell out to defend the run by an RB because of Allen. Getting him for under two million for the season is an absolute steal. If he plays an entire season, he could easily have another 15-touchdown season.

This is a significant piece, along with Connor McGovern. Both allow the Bills to get more physical, which gives them a better ability to grind people out and be multiple. Great pick. Up sucks to see him go there.

Chiefs Replace Super Bowl Hero

Frank Clark is still a great player, but he had a massive cap hit for the 2023 season, so with a team that has a cap situation like this, he’s the first to get the pay cut or just get released. So to use some of that money, the Chiefs signed Charles Omenihu from the 49ers.

He hasn’t had a breakout season yet, but he did have four and a half sacks last year, which puts him in a position to have that six-to-eight range paired up with Chris Jones and George Karlaftis.

The defense Steve Spangnolo runs knows how to put players in the best play to succeed, and Omenihu has all the talent in the world in a massive frame. He isn’t going to be a world-beater, but he should be a highly productive piece for a max value of 20 million over two seasons—a possible future Super Bowl hero for the Chiefs.

Steelers Beef Up The Interior

The Steelers had one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL last season, which crushed their potential because they have so many playmakers on that side of the ball. So they signed Issac Seumalo to a reasonable three-year eight million per year deal. They need to lean on Najee Harris with a second-year QB, so what better way to do that than to sign the Guard who just protected his way to the Super Bowl?

Seumalo is coming off his first season in three years, but he played exceptionally well and should be a fine piece to anchor this line. I expect a bounce-back season from the Steeler’s offense, which will spell issues for the rest of the NFL.

Saints Add Kamara Insurance

Alvin Kamara is a great player but is caught up in legal trouble and could miss a few games this season. Even if he avoided missing any games, he rarely gets 100% of the snaps, so adding a guy like Jamaal Williams is almost the perfect fit for this sort of role. Kamara won’t have to feel insecure, but there is reliable production behind him. Heck, they are probably going to be best friends.

Their skill sets don’t clash, so they could also play split back. Williams led the league in rushing touchdowns and still has some juice left. With Derek Carr coming in, they want to reset the locker room from the past couple of tough seasons. Williams is a natural breath of fresh air for this team. He should be excellent for them this season.

Falcons Add Defensive Pillars

The Falcons had one of the worst defenses in the league last year. They couldn’t pressure the QB and force turnovers, leaving them on the field tired and beaten. However, David Onyemata & Jessie Bates are the types of players that can remake a defense.

Onyemata is a highly productive player who has only missed six games. He brings 23 career sacks in six seasons. This will continue alongside Grady Jarrett, which should generate a better pass rush.

Having Jessie Bates in the back end keeps everyone organized and in the right play. He brings that big game swagger from Cincy, and that confidence should carry over to the younger CBs on the roster. New Orleans is also a tight ship; Oneymata played with Brees & Payton. He should know what it takes to win. A.J. Terrell & Grady Jarrett must thank Terry Fontenot daily for adding some reliable players to the roster.

Bottom Line

It will take a minimum of a year to know how these contracts played out indeed, Still, I feel very comfortable saying that if everyone stays healthy, these will all be productive signings for each organization.
