NFL Superstar Expected To Retire
The Atlanta Falcons are set to move on with Kirk Cousins as the team's next franchise quarterback. But arguably the team's best player at the position is expected to retire very soon.
Former Falcons and Colts quarterback Matt Ryan has not stepped on the field since the end of the 2022 NFL season, but he has not officially retired yet. As he enjoys his new career in broadcasting, it appears an official announcement is on the way.
While it appears that Matt Ryan is done playing football, it has been expected that he still wanted to keep his options open in case a team called him late in the season for a playoff run. Another reason for his delay in retirement was that the Colts owed him 12 M and could not cash that in if he had officially retired.
However, in a season where nearly half of the league's teams had to start a backup in some way, shape, or form, Ryan did not find a new home. With his hefty paycheck and retirement coming soon, speculation about his potential Hall Of Fame induction can begin.
Matt Ryan Would Be Eligible For 2029 Hall Of Fame Class
If Ryan were to retire this off-season, he would be eligible to join the Hall Of Fame Class of 2029, along with the legendary defensive tackle Aaron Donald and center Jason Kelce.
While many have debated whether the 38-year-old should be part of that class, the committee will very well take a look at his career. Even if it is not the first ballot, he deserves a shot to make it to Canton.
Matt Ryan Had A Great NFL Career
Matt Ryan played in the NFL from 2008-2022 playing 14 seasons for the Atlanta Falcons before finishing his final season in Indianapolis.
The former Boston College standout threw for 62,792 yards along with 381 touchdowns and a 93.6 passer rating. He won NFL MVP in 2016 and led the Atlanta Falcons to Super Bowl LI, where the team fell to the New England Patriots 34-28 in overtime.
