NFL Week Ten: Rookie Of The Week Award
The NFL Pepsi Poll for the rookie of the week award has highlighted one team several times. The New York Jets players account for seven of the ten weeks’ rookie of the week honors, with a couple of players showing up more than once. The Jets’ running back Breece Hall was the Week four and Week six award winner before he was injured. Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner has won the award three different times. Weeks five, seven, and nine. Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson was the other player for Weeks two and eight.
Pepsi’s Rookie Of The Week 2022: Week Ten Winner
Cheeseheads unite! Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson was chosen for the NFL rookie of the week after his dazzling performance against the Dallas Cowboys in America’s Game of the Week. Watson has struggled to stay on the field as a rookie. He’s dealt with concussions and hamstring injuries. Most Packers know him from his drop on the first drive of the NFL season against the Minnesota Vikings. Now Packers fans know him as their savior and might reignite their playoff chances.
In Week ten, Christian Watson torched the Cowboys’ defense four times. Watson caught four passes on eight targets for 107 yards and three touchdowns. Yes, three touchdowns. That was not a mistype. He led the team in targets, catches, receiving yards, and touchdowns. Watson caught touchdown passes of 58, 39, and seven yards. He has 14 receptions for 195 yards and three touchdowns this season. As you can see, this was his coming out performance of the regular season. He will look to continue his impressive play when the Packers host the Tennessee Titans at frigid Lambeau Field.
The Green Bay Packers drafted Christian Watson in the 2022 NFL Draft. He was selected in the second round, 34th overall. The Packers also took wide receiver Romeo Doubs in the fourth round and Samori Toure in the seventh round. Early on, Romeo Doubs was the leader on offense until he was placed on injured reserve, which opened up more opportunities for Watson. Toure has just been a depth option and plays as needed.
Other Notable NFL Rookie Of The Week Winners
Besides the New York Jets dominating the rookie of the week standings and Christian Watson being selected for Week ten, there are still two more players. In Week one, wide receiver Jahan Dotson for the Washington Commanders was chosen as the first rookie of the week award winner. Dotson only had three catches for 40 yards, but two were touchdown catches from quarterback Carson Wentz. Due to injuries, he has 13 catches for 166 yards and four touchdowns through ten weeks of the regular season.
Week three rookie of the week winner was Christian Watson’s teammate, Romeo Doubs. Doubs, as mentioned earlier, was drafted in the fourth round by the Packers and has been stellar this season. Unfortunately, Romeo was placed on injured reserve with a high-ankle sprain after the dreaded turf of the Detroit Lions stadium decimated the team on November 6th.
Prospects For Week 11 Rookie Of The Week
The players selected from Week ten also have a high chance of repeating in Week 11. Chicago Bears linebacker Jack Sanborn, Tamp Bay Buccaneers running back Rachaad White, Houston Texans running back Dameon Pierce, and Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson. The Jets had a bye in Week ten, so Sauce Gardner, the cornerback for the New York Jets, also has a worthy matchup to be selected again. Stay tuned in for next week’s selection for rookie of the week.
