Ohio State Lands A Player From Their Biggest Rival

Former Michigan linebacker Joey Velazquez has transferred to Ohio State as a walk-on. Velazquez is a Columbus, Ohio, native who graduated from DeSales High School and spent five seasons at Michigan.

Velazquez was a two-sport athlete at Michigan, playing football and baseball, but didn't see much action on the gridiron. Velazquez appeared in one game in 2019, none in 2020 and 2023, and eight games and 11 games in 2021 and 2022. Velazquez spent most of his time playing special teams, which is what he will most likely do for the Buckeyes.

It is weird to see a Michigan player transfer to Ohio State or vice versa. Velazquez will bring the experience of winning in the rivalry game since no other player in Ohio State's locker room has that.

It will be interesting to see how Ohio State's linebacker room shapes out this season after losing starters Tommy Eichenberg and Steele Chambers to the NFL Draft.
