How Jordan Morgan Fits In With Green Bay Packers

The 2024 NFL Draft has come and gone, meaning the 2024 Green Bay Packers draft class is in the books! This year's draft, held in Detroit, saw general manager Brian Gutekunst and the front office select 11 new players to conclude the month of April. The team addressed the offensive line, safety, linebacker, and cornerback needs while selecting depth at running back and quarterback.

Green Bay Packers 2024 Draft Class:

Round 1, Pick 25: Jordan Morgan, offensive tackle, Arizona

Round 2, Pick 45: Edgerrin Cooper, linebacker, Texas A&M

Round 2, Pick 58: Javon Bullard, defensive back, Georgia

Round 3, Pick 88: Marshawn Lloyd, running back, USC

Round 3, Pick 91: Ty'Ron Hopper, linebacker, Missouri

Round 4, Pick 111: Evan Williams, safety, Oregon

Round 5, Pick 163: Jacob Monk, center, Duke

Round 5, Pick 169: Kitan Oladapo, safety, Washington State

Round 6, Pick 202: Travis Glover, offensive tackle, Georgia State

Round 7, Pick 245: Michael Pratt, quarterback, Tulane

Round 7, Pick 255: Kalen King, cornerback, Penn State

One by one, I will analyze each pick the Packers selected. Today's article features first-round pick Jordan Morgan, a tackle out of Arizona, drafted 25th overall in the 2024 NFL Draft. Ranked as the 37th-best prospect in the draft by PFF, Morgan was selected as the 7th offensive lineman in the first round ahead of Graham Barton and Tyler Guyton.

It makes sense for Green Bay to go with a tackle. One of the best teams at developing and prioritizing protection for the quarterback, the Packers lost backup tackle Yosh Nijman, starting guard Jon Runyan Jr, and tackle David Bakhtiari, who has not played a full game in nearly four years.

Packers Prioritize Up Front To Protect Jordan Love

With young stars on the offensive line in Zach Tom and Elgton Jenkins, who can play any position, along with tackle Rasheed Walker and center Josh Myers, adding Morgan will provide a lot of protection for franchise quarterback Jordan Love, especially after seeing the offensive line crumble after Tom's injury against the 49ers in the playoffs.

Morgan had an 83.5 PFF grade in 2023 after allowing only two sacks in 12 games. He only played tackle the entire season but held up strong with 785 snaps. His 2022 season was even better, with only one sack allowed in ten games. He has only allowed ten hits to the quarterback in three seasons.

The Packers have a new stud at tackle, and while this pick may not be practical right away, Morgan can help protect Jordan Love throughout the season and hold up in the playoffs. A team's whole offense changes without good protection, like the Titans and Commanders, and valuing the wall up front is an intelligent investment by Brian Gutekunst.
