Packers Linked To Odell Beckham Jr. After Sunday’s Game
After tearing his ACL in the Super Bowl, Odell Beckham Jr. is a few weeks away from being able to play, which team will he choose to play for? In the last few days, OBJ has been linked to the Packers, could that be a possible destination?
There’s no doubt that the Packers would greatly benefit from some added veteran depth but the front office has made no attempt to sign such talent. Allen Lazard is a decent option as the top wideout but he doesn’t give opposing teams a reason to double him in coverage which leads to opposing teams to settle down and play basic man coverage. With the loss of Davante Adams in the off-season, can the Packers realistically advance to the Super Bowl without a stud wide receiver or will it be a similar result as in recent years?
How Are The Packers Linked To Odell Beckham Jr.?
On Sunday, October 2 the Packers faced the New England Patriots in the afternoon slot. Towards the end of the game, the official Twitter account for Odell Beckham Jr. tweeted about Aaron Rodgers, saying he is on fire and that he makes it look effortlessly. It’s hard to tell if this is a clue as to whether or not the Packers are on his list to visit as he recovers from his torn ACL in February. If the Packers were to sign Odell, he wouldn’t be able to suit up until November but he’d be an immediate threat to the opposing defense.
AR is tooo 🔥…. Honestly bro makes it look Effortlesss — Odell Beckham Jr (@obj) October 2, 2022
Aaron Rodgers appeared on The Pat McAfee Show as he has done numerous times in the past. This time, McAfee asked Rodgers about if he’s ever had the thought of playing with a guy like Odell. On air he said “@obj & I have been friends for a number of years now.. you’re always hoping there’s a time where you can figure things out & play together”. The Packers are already on track to make the playoffs after starting 3-1 through the first four games but all three wins have been close with an offense that hasn’t been clicking well.
A top-caliber weapon in OBJ could open the offense up again, similar to the Rodgers to Davante Adams connection. Although, it wouldn’t be as fine-tuned since Rodgers spent several years with Davante and they were always on the same page. OBJ has the speed and athletic ability to catch the 50-50 balls. Rodgers has the cannon and accuracy to lob a ball downfield. I would love to see these two guys playing ball on the field.

What Would It Take For The Packers To Sign OBJ?
In the 2021 season, the Los Angeles Rams signed OBJ to a one-year $4.25 million deal that included incentives. The Packers would be around the halfway mark of the regular season if they were to sign OBJ. I could see the deal being $1 million in base salary with plenty of incentives for yards, touchdowns, and based on how far they go in the playoffs. Green Bay currently has $6.7 million in cap space so there’s no question in cost, the Packers can afford to sign him.
Who Else Has OBJ Been Linked To?
Several NFL teams have voiced that they are interested in Odell and have been paying close attention to how he’s recovering from his torn ACL. The Los Angeles Rams are still the favorites even though they signed wide receiver Allen Robinson in the off-season. Per Twitter, the Packers were recently linked to him but the front office hasn’t mentioned the possibility of adding him yet. The other team that’s been linked to OBJ are the Cleveland Browns, it’d be a reunion since Odell played for the Browns for two years.
In recent Twitter news, it appears that the Kansas City Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills could also join the Odell Beckham sweepstakes as both teams are Super Bowl contenders and would benefit from his services. All of these teams have the cap space, it all comes down to who Odell would want to play for and possibly what climate he’d want to play in. This is just the beginning, the news and tweets are only going to increase until he signs with a team.
