Packers’ Mason Crosby Activated From PUP List August 30th
The Green Bay Packers activated kicker Mason Crosby from the PUP list just before roster cuts were finalized across the league. Crosby’s Week one availability is now secure as he will play in his 242nd straight game.
There was doubt between Mason Crosby’s knee surgery in August and his Week one availability as the Packers tested a couple of kickers in the preseason. It all came down to the final day as roster cuts needed to be submitted by 4 pm on August 30th. Crosby will now look forward to continuing his streak of starts. Sunday, September 11th will be his 242nd start as a kicker with the Green Bay Packers.
Packers Kicker: Mason “Mr. Magic Leg” Crosby
At the age of 37 years old, Mason Crosby will enter his 16th year in the NFL and with Green Bay. Since being drafted by Green Bay in the 2007 NFL Draft in round six, he has yet to miss a game. Crosby is currently seven games away from being tied for the longest active streak as a kicker. Morten Andersen currently holds the top spot at 248 consecutive games. Was this record what pushed the Packers and Crosby to be activated? Only time will tell.
With the activation of Crosby from the PUP list, backup kicker Ramiz Ahmed was waived. Ramiz played well in the preseason after replacing former kicker Gabe Brkic who was waived by the Packers with an injury designation after tweaking his hamstring during pre-game warmups.
Mason Crosby will look to improve this year after only hitting 73.5 percent of his field goal attempts last season. That was his first season hitting below 78 percent in a season since 2012 when he hit 63.6 percent of field goals. There have only been six instances in 15 seasons in which Crosby has missed under 80 percent of field goals. With the loss of Davante Adams, Green Bay may need to rely upon Crosby more early on until the offense starts clicking into high gear.
