Panthers and Falcons Preview: Panthers Blow Away Another Divisional Opponent?

The 2-5 Panthers will be in a head on collision with the 3-4 Falcons this upcoming Sunday in Atlanta, at 1 p.m. eastern as Carolina looks for a second consecutive win following their Week Seven success.

This Divisional Rival showdown will feature the stars DJ Moore, WR, PJ Walker, QB, for Carolina, vs Kyle Pitts, TE, and Marcus Mariota, QB, for the home Atlanta Falcons.

The offense will look to continue their heavy run game with both Chuba Hubbard, RB and D’Onta Foreman, RB. Hubbard rushed for 63 yards on nine attempts and one score, while his backfield mate Foreman rushed for 118 yards in Week Seven.

The running game wasn’t the only thing that was going right in last week’s game. PJ Walker and DJ Moore connected for a 20 yard score, igniting their fellow teammates. In that series of plays Walker had 11 straight completions.

PJ Walker was smooth sailing, having everything under control last week, his PFF Grade 94.9, per PFF. The current No. 1 quarterback also had six big time throws, and a passer rating of 126.5.

Defense Defense Defense

On the defensive side of the field will try to get to Mariota. Brian Burns, DE exploded with five tackles, one sack and two tackles for loss against Tom Brady and the Bucs last week.

The Carolina defense played a complete game without their star Jaycee Horn, CB. They hope to get him back in next weeks matchup.

Week Eight Panthers Score Predictions

Falcons 20 Panthers 19

“Who would’ve thought a couple weeks ago that this game could potentially be for first place in the NFC South? Both teams showcase extensive flaws, especially on the offensive side of the ball. And while the Falcons defense suffering with injuries, the Panthers don’t have the passing attack to take advantage. Koo hits a FG at the gun to get the Falcons to .500.” – Beau Gleason (Bengal Breakdown)

“Nothing makes sense that the NFC South is up for grabs. However, give me Atlanta at home. They’ve been playing decent football as of late. I like Atlanta in a close one. Falcons 20, Panthers 17.” – Meghan Hall (Indy Intercept)

“The Panthers started the season as one of the worst teams in football, but anything can happen in a Divisional game. Last week, the Panthers stun the Buccaneers at home. Carolina is currently undefeated in division games, while Atlanta is struggling to get a division win under their belt. Carolina wins in a close battle, 16-13” – Kevin Brzostek (Fly Eagles Fly)

“I say the Panthers win and I’m not being biased, just sticking to facts. The Falcon’s secondary is depleted with injuries, so DJ Moore can have a fun game. However, this will be a close matchup. Carolina 20, Eagles 17.” – Emily Gates (Panthers Pounce)

“Carolina will look to build on the momentum they gained following a shock blow out win over the Bucs, from 13 point underdogs to an 18 point victory some turnaround and Steve Wilks has the Panthers playing very hard. Carolina never usually travels well to Atlanta, but they face a Falcons secondary banged up with injuries so DJ Moore could be a go to target for PJ Walker who gets the start again.

On the other side of the ball, Al Holcomb’s defensive unit will face the leagues top rated rushing attack, in the past under Phil Snow Carolina struggles against teams who are determined to run the ball. But here expect another solid game from Derrick Brown shutting down the Falcons rush attack. The return of Jaycee Horn will take pressure off the likes of Donte Jackson and CJ Henderson who have struggled in recent weeks.

Atlanta keeps it close, but Carolina holds a lead forcing Marcus Mariota to throw the ball leading to some late turnovers
