Patriots Could Hand Keys To This Super Bowl Champion

The New England Patriots have a big off-season ahead. With a new coach in Jerod Mayo and a new direction for the historic team, the Patriots are expected to move on from former 2021 first-round pick Mac Jones. This comes after an underwhelming 4-13 season for the Patriots, which led to the parting of long-time head coach Bill Belichick and other changes within the staff.

While the team is expected to draft a quarterback with the third-overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, the team plans to sign a veteran and start that quarterback for the entire season. Could that veteran be Browns quarterback Joe Flacco?

Joe Flacco Could Bring Mentorship To New England

Joe Flacco probably was not expecting to start a playoff game at the end of the season, but sometimes life comes at you fast. After being unsigned through the middle of the season, the 39-year-old was signed by the Browns in November after quarterback Deshaun Watson suffered a season-ending injury.

Flacco did everything the Browns asked for him and more.

In only five games, Flacco went 4-1 after throwing for 1,616 yards, 13 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. If he played 17 games, Flacco was on pace to finish 13-4, throwing for 5,494 yards, 44 touchdowns, and 27 interceptions. This would be unrealistic, but it shows Flacco's good performance during his stretch with the Browns. To compare, Flacco threw more touchdowns (13) in five games than number-one overall pick Bryce Young threw in sixteen games (11).

Flacco would make great sense for the New England Patriots to sign. He would be a cheap veteran who could mentor the young rookie and help the team win some games. He is also a leader in the locker room, and it would give Flacco a chance to play another season instead of sitting on the bench.

What do you think? Would you want to see the former Super Bowl Most Valuable Player suit up for the New England Patriots? Or should the team opt for someone else like Baltimore's Tyler Huntley or Pittsburgh's Mason Rudolph?
