Patriots Vs. Lions: How To Watch, Stream, Listen, And More: A Complete Guide

As usual, there are plenty of different ways to watch the game for all types of viewers. Here’s an updated, compiled list of how you can get in on the action for Sunday’s game between the New England Patriots and the Detroit Lions.

There are not many things more mysterious concerning the 2022 NFL season than the current state of the Detroit Lions. The Lions roll into Gillette Stadium this weekend ranked #1 in Points Per Game (35)… With a 1-3 record somehow… The somehow more than likely a direct result of a team’s defense that’s ranked #32 (last) in Points Allowed Per Game (35.3)… Last time I checked, 35.3 is more than 35, so I suppose the math checks out.

The Lions have been particularly volatile this season (what else is new) and, similar to every other opponent rolling into Gillette Stadium to face the Patriots, are most certainly seeking a victory against a Bill Belichick-led Patriots team to serve as a morale boost and important victory in terms of early season validation.

Fun fact: Bill Belichick was actually a coach on the lions during two of his first three years in the NFL. In 1976 he served as the Detroit Lions Assistant special teams coach, and in 1977 he spent a year as the Lion’s Receivers coach before moving on to greener pastures. To put some perspective on how long Bill Belichick has been coaching in the NFL, let’s go over some of the significant events that took place during the year 1976.

1976:

April 1st – Apple Computer Company is formed by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak in California.

August 1st -The Seattle Seahawks and Tampa Bay Buccaneers play their first games as the NFL’s newest expansion teams.

November 26 – Microsoft is officially registered with the Office of the Secretary of the State of New Mexico.

November 29 – The New York Yankees sign free agent Reggie Jackson to a five-year $3 million contract, setting the precedent for lucrative multi-year contracts for Major League Baseball players in years to come.

Births:

January 13 – Michael Peña, actor and musician

January 30 – Andy Milonakis, Internet and MTV star

March 20 – Chester Bennington, lead singer of Linkin Park (died 2017)

March 22 – Reese Witherspoon, actress, producer, and entrepreneur

March 24 – Peyton Manning, American football player

March 26 – Amy Smart, actress and fashion model

June 5 – Torry Holt, American football player and sportscaster

July 15 – Gabriel Iglesias, comedian, actor and producer

September 12 – Bizzy Bone, rapper

November 29 – Chadwick Boseman, actor and playwright (died 2020)

December 20 – Aubrey Huff, baseball player and radio host

Obviously, these weren’t the only significant events and births from 1976, but these were the ones I recognized the most and the ones that I thought would really paint a picture of how long Bill Belichick has been coaching in this league. Crazy to imagine that Bill was on the sidelines coaching when NFL legends such as Torry Holt and Peyton Manning couldn’t even walk yet. Absolutely incredible. What’s even crazier is that Bill is coaching his 400th game with the Patriots.

I apologize for getting off track; let’s get back to the subject at hand and go over how you can catch this week’s game if you aren’t lucky enough to be going in person.

Honestly kind of surprised that the likely-to-be Tom Brady-less Buccaneers get top billing over the Patriots who are probably starting a rookie QB and inevitably bound to be waist-deep in QB controversy next week. That’s just poor marketing.

You can stream the game on FuboTV (Free trial available).

You can stream the game on NFL+ (Free trial available).

You can stream the game on Paramount Plus (Free trial available).

Outlook And Things To Look Out For

The Patriots fan favorite red throwback uniforms make their first appearance in 10 years this week. The last time they were worn was in 2012 against the Jets during a game that the Patriots won in overtime 29-26. Back when Rex Ryan was the head coach of the Jets and Nick Folk was their kicker. I’ve mentioned this particular game between the Patriots and Jets once before while reporting on the team.

This was the game Devin McCourty had returned a kickoff to the house 104 yards for a TD, the second longest return in Patriots history, commemorated by this awesome GIF you may have seen in my Devin McCourty article (courtesy of SBNation).

This is what happened last time we wore the throwback reds. Wearing them again for the first time in 10 years this Sunday. McCourty's still on the team too. pic.twitter.com/PCJS8QyYXB — Pat Keefe (@PatKeefe12) October 7, 2022

This Sunday is bound to be another close game between two 1-3 teams who have been struggling to find a consistent identity this season. It’s likely that whichever team loses is going to have their playoff hopes greatly diminished, as the losing team will be leaving Gillette stadium with an abysmal record of 1-4. Go Pats!
