Pittsburgh Is Set To Host This Gigantic NFL Event

The NFL announced on Wednesday that they have selected Pittsburgh to host the 2026 NFL Draft. It is an exciting time for the city of Pittsburgh. The last time the NFL Draft was in Pittsburgh was 1948 when the NFL looked a lot different, and so did Pittsburgh.

NFL Takes Over Pittsburgh

While still in the early planning phases, it is expected that the stage for the NFL Draft will be somewhere down on the North Shore with the stage facing the city. Various other spots around the city plan to host extra events throughout the draft weekend including Downtown, Point State Park, the Central Business District, and the Strip District. Station Square, The Incline, and the Rivers will also be incorporated.

This will also be a good chance for Steelers fans to show the world why they are one of the best football cities in America. They’ll be out in droves to see who Omar Khan and company decide to make the next potential Steeler great. They’ll be loud and proud, like always.

The 1948 NFL Draft

The last time Pittsburgh got a chance to host the NFL Draft was in 1948 when the event came to the Fort Pitt Hotel, a spot on the eastern edge of Pittsburgh’s triangle. The 1948 NFL Draft produced three Hall of Famers, Bobby Layne, who the Bears picked third, Y.A. Tittle, the sixth overall pick by the Lions, and Lou Creekmur, the 243rd overall selection by the Eagles.

The hometown Steelers picked ninth in that draft, selecting Dan Edwards. He didn’t appear to play in any games for the Steelers, but he spent time with the Brooklyn Dodgers and Chicago Hornets of the AAFC before coming over to the NFL to play for the New York Yanks, Dallas Texans, and the Baltimore Colts.

Edwards then spent time in the CFL with the BC Lions before retiring and becoming a coach for the Lions and the Edmonton Eskimos of the CFL before leaving football to become an oil executive. In 1950 when he was with the Yanks, he was named a First Team All-Pro and earned a trip to the Pro Bowl. What a life.

The 2026 NFL Draft

While we're still far away from the 2026 NFL Draft, it’s hard to project what prospects will be in the draft pool. Right now the projected headliners include Jordan Hall, a defensive lineman out of Georgia, Dante Moore, a quarterback from UCLA, Jermaine Mathews, a cornerback representing Ohio State, and the nephew of Peyton and Eli Manning, Arch Manning from Texas.

The NFL Draft is always a great event put on by the NFL. Expect 2026 to be no different in Pittsburgh. Who knows, maybe the next Tom Brady will begin his NFL journey on a cold April night on the North Shore of the Steel City.
