Predicting The Denver Broncos 2024 Record Game-By-Game
The Russel Wilson Era didn't bring the greener grass Broncos fans were promised, and now it's time to move on. Wilson is in Pittsburgh, and the Broncos hope Bo Nix can be the answer at quarterback for the foreseeable future.
With all of the change at QB, how will the Broncos perform in 2024? Here's a game-by-game prediction for the Broncos season.
Week One: At Seattle Seahawks
When the Broncos and Seahawks met in Week One of the 2022 NFL season, Russell Wilson was arguably the biggest storyline in the NFL. Wilson had just been traded to Denver and was making his Broncos debut against his former squad. The Seahawks won that game, and I expect them to beat Denver again in 2024.
Broncos Record: 0-1
Week Two: Vs. Pittsburgh Steelers
There's no denying Russell Wilson will want to have a big game against the Broncos, and he'll get that chance in Week Two. These teams haven't met since October 2021, a game the Steelers won 27-19. The Steelers have a slightly better roster than the Broncos, and they'll take care of business at home in Russell Wilson's revenge game.
Broncos Record: 0-2
Week Three: At Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Baker Mayfield was a pleasant surprise for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last season, and the Bucs made sure the former first-overall pick was here to stay, signing him to a three-year contract extension. Tampa Bay will have a competitive offense again this season, and the Broncos defense will struggle to slow them down. Denver drops its third straight game to start the season.
Broncos Record: 0-3
Week Four: At New York Jets
Aaron Rodgers is 2-1 in his career when facing Denver, but he hasn't gone against the Broncos since 2019. The Jets have a significant advantage in this game, as they'll be coming off of a mini-bye week, which could benefit an aging quarterback. The Jets faithful will be fired up for this game, and the Broncos will struggle to do much.
Broncos Record: 0-4
Week Five: Vs. Las Vegas Raiders
The Broncos' first divisional matchup is in Week Five when they host the Las Vegas Raiders. Denver has lost the last eight games against the Raiders, with their previous win coming in 2019. That streak will end this season. Bo Nix and the offense will find themselves in this game and get their first win of the 2024 campaign.
Broncos Record: 1-4
Week Six: Vs. Los Angeles Chargers
Denver will enter Week Six feeling good after their win over the Raiders, but they'll have a challenging task ahead in the Los Angeles Chargers. The Broncos have played surprisingly well against Justin Herbert at the Chargers, winning the previous three meetings. While I expect Denver to be competitive in this game, L.A. will be coming off their BYE, which helps push the Chargers to victory.
Broncos Record: 1-5
Week Seven: At New Orleans Saints (TNF)
Nothing says "Thursday Night Football" more than a New Orleans Saints and Denver Broncos matchup. Both teams have failed to meet expectations in the past couple of seasons, and they're both hoping for a turnaround in 2024. Derek Carr is 11-6 all-time against Denver, and he'll be 12-6 after this Week Seven showdown.
Broncos Record: 1-6
Week Eight: Vs. Carolina Panthers
The Carolina Panthers should be better than last season, but I don't expect them to take a massive leap forward in 2024. This will be considered a breakout game for Bo Nix, and he'll throw for four touchdowns. As for the Broncos defense, they'll be all over Bryce Young, recording three sacks and a forced fumble.
Broncos Record: 2-6
Week Nine: At Baltimore Ravens
Baltimore, on paper, might be the best team in the AFC. Not only do you have to worry about Lamar Jackson's dual-threat capability, but opposing defenses will now be required to stop running back Derrick Henry. The Ravens will compete for the top seed in the Conference and make easy work of this Broncos team.
Broncos Record: 2-7
Week 10: At Kansas City Chiefs
What a nightmarish two weeks for the Denver Broncos. After traveling to face Baltimore last year, they turned around to take on the defending Super Bowl Champions. The Broncos have only beaten the Mahomes-led Chiefs once, and it happened to be last season. Denver isn't going to win this game, but I believe they'll keep it close.
Broncos Record: 2-8
Week 11: Vs. Atlanta Falcons
Atlanta hopes the Kirk Cousins Era is a good one. The Falcons have an incredible roster, and the veteran quarterback could be the missing piece to finding playoff success. Although Atlanta will be a good team, they run into an angry Broncos team in Week 11. Denver finds a way to win a close one at home.
Broncos Record: 3-8
Week 12: At Las Vegas Raiders
The Broncos beat the Raiders back in Week Five, but can they do it again in Week 12? At this point in the season, I expect the Raiders to have switched to Gardner Minshew as their starting quarterback. Minshew will allow you to win just about every week, and he'll have a signature "Minshew Mania" moment in this game as the Raiders blow out the Broncos.
Broncos Record: 3-9
Week 13: Vs. Cleveland Browns (MNF)
Cleveland and Denver are similar teams in that they traded for a veteran quarterback and have had disappointing results since then. DeShaun Watson could be out of the lineup for one reason or another in Week 13, and the Broncos will defeat the Browns on Monday Night Football.
Broncos Record: 4-9
Week 14: BYE Week
This is a late BYE week for the Broncos. Denver had their break in Week Nine the last two seasons and in Week 11 during the 2022 campaign. This will be an opportunity for the Broncos to rest up and prepare for the final four games of their 2024 season.
Week 15: Vs. Indianapolis Colts
Denver will have plenty of time to prepare for the Week 15 meeting with the Indianapolis Colts, and they'll take full advantage of it. Anthony Richardson will make the Colts a tough opponent every week, but the Broncos defense will slow him down in this one. Don't be surprised if Denver has a defensive score or two as they pick up their fifth win of the season.
Broncos Record: 5-9
Week 16: At Los Angeles Chargers
Los Angeles beat Denver in Week Five, and you can expect more of the same in their second meeting of the season. The Chargers could be fighting for a wild card spot at this point of the year, and they won't let a 5-9 Broncos squad get in their way. Denver drops their 10th game of the season with only two weeks remaining.
Broncos Record: 5-10
Week 17: At Cincinnati Bengals
As if playing Joe Burrow and the Bengals isn't tricky enough, Cincinnati will be coming off a mini bye, thanks to playing on Thursday Night Football in Week 16. The Bengals fans will be pumped for this game as the team pushes for the top seed in the AFC. Although the Broncos put up a fight, the Bengals win at home.
Broncos Record: 5-11
Week 18: Vs. Kansas City Chiefs
The final game of the Broncos' 2024 season is against the Kansas City Chiefs. In this prediction, the Chiefs are still trying to secure the first seed in the AFC and can do so with a win over Denver. Mahomes doesn't disappoint and leads the Chiefs to a big win. Denver finishes the season with a 5-12 record, third in the AFC West, behind the Chiefs and Chargers.
Broncos Record: 5-12
