Quiet Trade Deadline For The Philadelphia Eagles, But Let's Recap What They Did Before

The NFL trade deadline came and went for the 2023 NFL season. Howie Roseman and the Philadelphia Eagles were largely expected to make even more moves, but they did not. This is not surprising because the team was quite busy over the last couple of weeks. Let's recap the roster moves that the team made in October. From roster upgrades and plugging in gaps where there were injuries, the team is still one of the most talented in the league.

The Eagles Made A Move In All Three Phases

It takes all three phases of the game (offense, defense, and special teams) to win games in the NFL. Philadelphia smartly improved where they were weak or upgraded existing strengths.

10/12: Signed former New York Jets Punter Braden Mann

10/17: Signed former Atlanta Falcons and Tennesse Titans Wide Receiver Julio Jones

10/18: Signed Cornerback Josiah Scott to the active roster from the Pittsburgh Steelers' practice squad

10/23: Agreed to acquire Safety Kevin Byard from the Titans in exchange for S Terrell Edmunds, a 2024 fifth-round draft pick, and a 2024 sixth-round draft pick.

10/30: Acquired a 2024 sixth-round pick from the Atlanta Falcons in exchange for DT Kentavius Street and a 2025 seventh-round pick.

Overall, it was good the team kept draft capital for future years. The team has a relatively young roster, but the talent pool gets deeper and deeper every year. Philadelphia can continue to build around their young stars, while gradually replacing the aging veterans in the near future.

Unfortunately, an area of concern that was not upgraded was the cornerback room. This position group has been raveled by injuries all year long. They've had some good games like against the Miami Dolphins, but Washington Commanders Quarterback Sam Howell picked apart the Eagles' secondary in both matchups. It'll certainty be interesting to see how things play out going forward. If guys get healthy and the reserve players get more experience, things may not be as bad as it seems. This could very well be why the Eagles did not look at bringing in any expensive trade targets.

As the Eagles exit the trade deadline, they sit at 7-1 and best record in the NFL. They have not always looked like the most dominant team, but the record speaks for itself.
