Rachaad White Has A Path To Repeat A Fantasy Performance
Rachaad White had a breakout season in 2023, finishing as RB7 in half-PPR formats. After revitalizing Geno Smith’s and Baker Mayfield’s career, play caller Dave Canales has departed to Carolina to take over as Head Coach. The Buccaneers decided to hire former Rams Offensive Coordinator Liam Coen.
The Bucs also added a couple of new faces to their offense. They drafted RB Bucky Irving in the 4th round of the Draft and OL Graham Barton in the 1st round. Tampa Bay needed to address their offensive line woes as last year, they ranked 4th in run blocking as a unit (per PFF). Baker Mayfield also took the 6th most sacks in the NFL last season. Adding Graham Barton to the interior should provide a much-needed boost to their rushing attack.
White struggled with efficiency on the ground the past two seasons, averaging just 3.6 yards per attempt in 2023 and 3.7 yards per attempt in 2022. White’s involvement in the passing game catapulted him into his RB7 finish last year, as he recorded 64 receptions and 8.6 yards per reception (which is great for a running back). White had the 9th most red zone targets of any running back, and so in an offense with Mike Evans and Chris Godwin.
White had 9 weeks where he finished as an RB1, 4 weeks as an RB2, and 4 weeks as an RB3 or worse last season. White had 336 touches during the season but managed just 9 total touchdowns. White could finally surpass the 4 yards per carry mark with an improved offensive line. If he adds another 60+ receptions, he should be firmly in the low-end RB1 category.
White’s current Dynasty ADP in 1QB leagues is 35th overall and RB12 (per FantasyPros). In Redraft leagues, White’s current ADP sits at 42nd overall and the 13th Running Back off the board. Although White does not feel like an exciting pick this year, with an improved offensive line and his rushing efficiency yet to reach its full potential, White could be one of the better values at Running Back this year.
Our consensus projections for White in the 2024 season are 241 carries for 947 yards and 9 touchdowns. In the receiving game, his consensus projection is 47 receptions for 354 yards and 2 touchdowns.
