Ranking Every Quarterback Room In The AFC South
The most "up-and-coming" division is subsequent, and it will make for a more than exciting list. Almost every team in the AFC South has a relatively young quarterback leading the way or getting ready to lead the way. These rankings should be pretty divisive, so without further ado, here they are.
4) Tennessee Titans
The Titans are an exciting team for this season and the future of the NFL. Under a new head coach in Brian Callahan, coming over from the Bengals, the Titans will look to build their future around 2023 second-round pick Will Levis. Levis showed tremendous potential at the college level with his mobility and cannon of an arm, but he also started towards the end of the year for the Titans and showed flashes of greatness.
Behind him sit former Steeler Mason Rudolph and former Liberty standout Malik Willis. The Titans have an intriguing quarterback room, with some fans believing that Willis still has potential as a quarterback but has been overshadowed by Levis and others along the way. Unfortunately, Levis is in a division filled with great, young quarterbacks, and someone has to come last.
3) Indianapolis Colts
The Colts are led by the former University of Florida product, Anthony Richardson. Richardson looked incredible to start last season, totaling over 700 yards in four games with seven touchdowns and only two turnovers during that span. The Colts would have also likely been 3-1 at that point (all games against teams that would contend for the playoffs) had Richardson not gotten hurt.
Richardson has a large fanbase behind him that believes he is the franchise quarterback for the Colts. Behind him stand Comeback Player of the Year, Joe Flacco, UT Austin product Sam Ehlinger, and the former USC Trojan, Kedon Slovis. While a very young room, Richardson's ceiling being higher than Levis's is what solidifies the Colts in the three slot.
2) Jacksonville Jaguars
Trevor Lawrence was one of the most outstanding quarterback prospects of all time. Alongside Andrew Luck, John Elway, and maybe Caleb Williams, Lawrence was the picture-perfect NFL quarterback stereotype. Unfortunately for Jaguars fans, Lawrence has yet to piece it all together in the NFL.
Don't get it wrong; Lawrence has shown he has the tools to be a franchise quarterback, just not all at once like fans would hope. Lawrence did come back from down 28 points in the playoffs against the Chargers in one of the greatest meltdowns in NFL history, but for right now he is just a Pro-Bowler, and if he wants to live up to the hype he got out of college, he needs to do a bit more. The Jaguars get the number two slot until he lives up to that hype.
1) Houston Texans
This was a clear number-one option, similar to many of the rankings before this. CJ Stroud had the greatest rookie season of all time, taking the team from the second-worst in the NFL to the playoffs the following season. While they did get sent home by Lamar Jackson and the Ravens, CJ Stroud proved that he is one of the future faces of the NFL and that Patrick Mahomes needs to be afraid of him.
Alongside Demeco Ryans doing a fantastic job as head coach, bringing in Stefon Diggs will only help an already loaded wide receiver core exacerbate how good Stroud can be in the NFL. While the rest of the room isn't as good as some of the others on this list, Stroud is far and away the best quarterback in the AFC South.
