Ranking Every Quarterback Room In The NFC South

They are by far the worst of the NFC, but they are a part of it. Gone are the days of Winston, Brees, Newton, and Ryan. We now have Mayfield, Carr, Young, and Cousins. It is a weird group, but that makes it all that more interesting to answer the question: Who has the best quarterback room?

4) New Orleans Saints

This will surprise many, as it should, but there is good reason for the Saints being last. First off, Carr is much older and showing extreme signs of regression. With a weapons core that is only getting older and more depleted as time passes, it will be hard for him to thrive. Jake Haener, rookie Spencer Rattler, and Swiss-army knife Taysom Hill are backing up Carr. None of those are incredibly desirable options; if a team is left to those, they might not win another game. The Saints are screwed in the long term, and the quarterback position is just another spot to recognize just how screwed they are.

3) Carolina Panthers

I believe in Bryce Young. I said it. So many people immediately wrote him off as a bust after CJ Stroud was far better, despite Stroud being in a perfect situation. But now, with their new head coach, Dave Canales, being a quarterback guru, it should help the Alabama product improve massively. Not to mention that Young is backed up by the "Red Rifle" himself, Andy Dalton. This room is incredibly solid, with likely the highest upside in the entire division if Young proves to be a star.

2) Tampa Bay Buccaneers

As my fellow staff writer, JT Howland, told me, I was wrong about the Buccaneers last year. I claimed they should blow the team up, but I was wrong. Baker Mayfield is not only that guy, but also THE guy for the Buccaneers. Mayfield shined with elite weapons, including Mike Evans and Chris Godwin on the outside, taking the Buccaneers to the playoffs. Mayfield put up a fight against the Lions but just proved not to be enough to propel them to the NFC championship. Regardless of losing in the playoffs, Mayfield solidified himself as the quarterback of this team and showed the same potential that got him drafted first overall back in 2018.

1) Atlanta Falcons

The craziest quarterback story of the offseason ended up getting the Falcons the best quarterback room in the NFC South, albeit through questionable means. They gave Kirk Cousins a four-year deal and immediately drafted rookie Michael Penix Jr. with the eighth overall pick. This baffled fans, including myself, but it gave them a reliable future guy to take over when Cousins is traded or retires. While Penix will be 28 when the Cousins deal runs out, there is no doubt that a room made up of Cousins and Penix is the best in the NFC South.
