Ranking The Top 10 Offensive Tackles In College Football
After the success of the top ten tight ends in college football ranking, it's time to rank the top ten offensive tackles in college football.
This list will feature the top ten offensive tackles in college football, with a few honorable mentions, whether it's a transfer player or a player who has been in his program for a few years.
Top 10 Offensive Tackles In College Football
1. Will Campbell, LSU
Will Campbell started as a true freshman at left tackle in the SEC and has been incredible since. His 85.6 pass-blocking grade trailed only Peter Skoronski, who was drafted 11th overall by the Tennessee Titans. He also was the fifth-most Power Five tackle according to PFF's win-above-average metric. Campbell faces his most challenging assignment yet, protecting first-year starting quarterback Garrett Nussmeier.
2. Kelvin Banks Jr, Texas
Kelvin Banks Jr. started his freshman season for the Longhorns and was among the nation's best tackles. He only allowed pressure on 3.5% of his pass sets, ranking fifth among Power Five tackles per PFF. He stepped forward this season, raising his pass-blocking grade from 77.9 to 86.8, the second-highest among returning tackles.
3. Wyatt Milum, West Virginia
Wyatt Milum played all 12 games as a freshman, starting eight at right tackle and earning a 74.2 pass-blocking grade, second among true freshman Power five tackles per PFF. He was flipped to left tackle in his sophomore season, where he's been the starter for the past two seasons, but he hasn't allowed a sack in 23 of the last 25 games he's played. Milum was named to preseason All-Big 12 team honors.
4. Jonah Monheim, USC
Jonah Monheim only appeared in one game in his freshman season, but in the 2021 season, splitting time at right tackle and right guard. In his 2022 season, he took off, starting all 14 games as a redshirt sophomore, playing 11 games at right tackle and three at right guard, earning All-Pac-12 Honorable Mentions, and helping the Trojans offensive line be a Joe Moore Award Semifinalist. Monheim was flipped to left tackle in his redshirt Junior season, where his 87.8 pass-blocking grade finished sixth among all offensive tackles per PFF.
5. Ajani Cornelius, Oregon
Ajani Cornelius spent his first two seasons at Rhode Island, earning Colonial Athletic Association All-Conference first-team honors. He entered the portal in December of 2022 before committing to the Ducks. He started all 14 games at right tackle, not allowing a hit or a sack on 115 true pass sets per PFF.
6. Riley Mahlman, Wisconsin
Riley Mahlman missed six games due to an injury sustained in the season opener. He came back playing in seven games and starting in six at right tackle, only allowing one sack in the 2022 season. Mahlman took his biggest step forward in 2023, starting all 13 games at right tackle, where he became the seventh-most valuable offensive tackle in the country per PFF.
7. Aireontae Ersery, Minnesota
Aireontae Ersery sat his first two seasons with the Gophers before becoming the starter at left tackle for the past two seasons. While his pass protection still needs refinement, he has been one of the run blockers, earning an 86.2 run-blocking grade, trailing only Taliese Fuaga, Joe Alt, and Javon Foster per PFF.
8. Blake Miller, Clemson
Blake Miller has been the Tigers' right tackle since his freshman season, where he started all 14 games, and his 989 offensive snaps tied Jordan McFadden for the fourth most by an offensive tackle in Clemson history. He's been the ACC's top run blocker, posting a 71.4 run-blocking grade per PFF, but he still needs development as a pass protector.
9. Emery Jones, LSU
Along with teammate Will Campbell, Emery Jones got his start as a true freshman. Both tackles were freshmen in LSU history, forming what is now the best tackle duo in college football. Per PFF, he took a massive step forward for his sophomore season, finishing as the sixth-highest graded tackle in the SEC. If Jones can continue that progression, he could be a first-round pick alongside his teammate.
