Real Madrid Star Kylian Mbappe Dismisses Cristiano Ronaldo After Scoring First La Liga Goal
Real Madrid fans are still on cloud nine after acquiring French forward Kylian Mbappé, arguably the world's best player, on a free transfer this past summer.
Mbappé has admitted that he idolized former Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo, the club's all-time leading goal scorer, growing up.
This has led to inevitable comparisons with the Portuguese icon as Mbappe embarks on his first season with Los Blancos, and he has kept his cool amid the hype.
"I don't feel the pressure. I don't think about Cristiano, with all due respect to him. Cristiano is my idol, yes. But no, I don't want to follow anything. I don't want that pressure. I want to be Kylian. I only have the pressure of having to adapt to the team," the 25-year-old said.
Kylian Mbappe Opens La Liga Goal Tally
Mbappé failed to score in Real Madrid's first three La Liga games of the 2024-25 season, causing some concern among Madridistas.
Those worries were put to rest after the former Paris Saint-Germain forward scored a brace in their fourth league game against Real Betis last Sunday at their home, Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.
"It was a great moment. I had been hoping to score in this legendary stadium, which I consider the best in the world. I feel great here. I've said it since I arrived, I'm happy. The fans and everyone at the club have shown me a lot of affection, even when I wasn’t scoring," the Paris native said.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner had previously scored a goal in his debut match for Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup in the middle of August.
"For some players, three games without a goal might not seem like much, but for me, it felt like a lot. Still, the support from the club and the fans has been incredible. It gives me the confidence to give my all for this club and its badge," the 2022 FIFA World Cup Golden Boot recipient said.
