Reinforcements Coming For The Steelers After The Bye Week
Pittsburgh handled business in the first half of the season and pulled into the bye week with a record of 6-2. The Steelers find themselves in the mix in the AFC with the toughest part of their schedule coming up. Like every team in the NFL, the Steelers were battered with injuries early in the season. Now that they’ve had a week off, Pittsburgh can expect to see these guys back soon.
Zach Frazier
After years of struggling to find a reliable center, the Steelers have their best project yet in Zach Frazier from West Virginia. He played six games before his ankle injury and took no penalties or sacks in 379 snaps. He’s only allowed four pressures and two quarterback hits. PFF has him ranked sixth in run blocking and third in pass blocking grade out of 56 eligible centers. The Steelers can’t wait to get him back.
Nick Herbig
Jeremiah Moon has done the job in the absence of Nick Herbig, but the Steelers defense will get a jolt of energy when Herbig returns to the lineup. Although he has played just five games this season, PFF ranks him eighth among edge rushers in total grade, scoring 89.9. In his five games, Herbig posted two and a half sacks, nine pressures, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery. He’s set to return soon.
Cordarelle Patterson
Najee Harris is enjoying the best stretch of his career, but the return of Cordarelle Patterson could add another dimension to the Steelers offense. Harris, Patterson, and Jaylen Warren are three serviceable running backs. Patterson hasn’t played since week five against the Colts when he injured his ankle. In that game, Patterson rushed for 43 yards on six attempts, averaging 7.2 yards per carry.
Cory Trice
Pittsburgh will also get depth at the cornerback position after the bye week. Second-year Steeler Cory Trice only played three games this season before heading to the injured reserve with a hamstring injury. In week two against the Broncos, Trice grabbed his first career interception to seal the game. Trice isn’t the only piece of the cornerback room that will return after the bye week.
Cameron Sutton
Now that he has served his eight-game suspension, Cameron Sutton is set to return to the Steelers. He spent last season with the Lions, posting one interception, 50 solo tackles, and four tackles for loss in 17 games. Now he returns to the Steelers as a premier depth piece. It will be hard to keep Beanie Bishop off the field after his incredible run the past few weeks, but Sutton and Trice are incredible depth.
