Roman Reigns Has Carried WWE Smack Down For Five Years.
Ever since his return at the WWE Premium Live Event Payback, the blur brand has been firmly placed upon the shoulders of Roman Reigns, after having to leave television due to health concerns over the potential risks of catching COVID-19 after the superstar had a battle with Leukemia in the past.
There has not been any other superstar to do what Roman has done since his return. At Payback Roman, entered the match late to make it a triple-threat match between Braun Strowman, The Fiend, and Reigns. With the help of his new "Wise Man" Paul Heyman, everything seemed to line up perfectly for the newly named "Head of the Table".
Reigns ended up winning the WWE Universal Championship that year as well. This reign would last 1,316 days, including winning the WWE Championship and unifying both titles by defeating Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 38. This reign is certainly one that will never be forgotten. The Bloodline Story centered around Roman Reigns, was one of the greatest stories told in the history of wrestling.
Throughout this illustrious run, Reigns has taken down some of the biggest names in all of Wrestling. A list of legends that includes Brock Lesnar, Rey Mysterio, Seth Rollins, John Cena, and of course Cody Rhodes. Week in and week out, for the past five years SmackDown has been anchored around Roman and the bloodline story. Whether he was actually in the building, or if it was the other members of the Bloodline (Cousins Jimmy and Jey, and The Wise Man Paul Heyman.)
Shake's Take:
While I was not always the biggest fan of Roman and how he was booked in the finish of most of his matches, I always respected the run he was on and the story that was being told. For a story to keep fans engaged for so long is not easily accomplished.
Roman didn't even need to be in the building for the story to build. Paul Heyman and The Usos made sure to hold down the fort. I said numerous times throughout the Bloodline Story that Paul Heyman was the most interesting man in WWE. His work as a puppet master backstage for Roman has not been seen by any manager in WWE history, except for other runs by Heyman himself.
