Rome Odunze Has Immense Fantasy Potential Beyond 2024
The Chicago Bears drafted Rome Odunze with the 9th overall pick in the first round of the NFL Draft. Odunze had elite production at Washington, compiling 214 receptions, 3272 yards (15.3 yards per reception), and 24 touchdowns.
He was the lead dawg in an offense with two other good receivers, which shows he can demand targets, which will be crucial stepping into the Bears offense as the WR3 behind DJ Moore and Keenan Allen will hurt his early season numbers. Shane Waldron’s offenses generally pass the ball around 55% of the time, but they feature two WRs for fantasy. It’s rare to support a third. JSN was a prime example of this.
Allen and Moore demand targets (150 through 13 games for Allen and 137 for DJ Moore) as well, so starting the year will be rough; look to add him on waivers or trade for him mid-season in redraft leagues.
In Dynasty, don’t let the short-term situation scare you. He could be Caleb’s future number-one guy. There could be a legitimate debate between Odunze, Maye, McCarthy, and Bowers at the 1.05 in Superflex leagues. In 1 QB leagues, he should be the third player off the board.
Our consensus projections for Odunze in the 2024 season would be 56 receptions, 827 yards, and 5 touchdowns through the air.
