Grading the Marshon Lattimore Trade
Now there's the blockbuster trade we've been looking for. In almost every trade deadline, there is always one notable name that gets dealt on the final day. This season, it is New Orleans Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore, who is being traded to the Washington Commanders in a deal involving multiple picks. The details of that trade are down below.
Trade Details for Marshon Lattimore
Washington Commanders Acquire: CB Marshon Lattimore and a 2025 5th-Round Pick
New Orleans Saints Acquire: 2025 3rd Round Pick, 2025 4th Round Pick, and 2025 6th Round Pick
Washington Commanders Side
It was reported earlier this week that multiple players were willing to be traded to Washington. That's what happens when a franchise is no longer owned by Dan Snyder, an absolute disgrace.
The Commanders are a very good team, but their secondary is an absolute mess, excluding Benjamin St-Juste. Emmanuel Forbes has been a complete bust as a former 1st round pick, and Washington had to make a move for Lattimore. Lucky for them, they got the deal done for a shutdown cornerback. A big concern with getting Lattimore is, he has been injury-prone and is still dealing with a nagging hamstring injury. Lattimore has not played more than 10 games in a season since 2021, which is quite concerning. Besides that, this is a great addition for a Commanders team that might win the NFC East.
New Orleans Saints Side
The Saints have finally accepted that they are not going to win with this core. They already fired Dennis Allen (1 year too late), and now they have traded a notable face on that defense, Marshon Lattimore. It was no longer an if, but when Lattimore was going to be moved. The Saints need draft capital to start the rebuild process, and have to figure out how to truly escape cap hell. Instead of kicking the can down the road on this issue, the Saints are going to bite the bullet, and begin the long rebuilding process.
Grades For The Marshon Lattimore Trade
Washington Commanders - A
New Orleans Saints - A
Both sides win this trade, and each side will get the same grade. The Saints win by getting as many draft picks as possible to help start their rebuild, and begin to crack at the cap hell they're going to face this offseason. The Commanders won because they desperately needed a shutdown cornerback. Although he has an injury issue, Giving up a third or fourth-pick, and downgrading a late-round selection is worth it. Hopefully, this trade works out for everyone involved.
