Sam Darnold Has A Chance For Fantasy Relevance In 2024
Sam Darnold will be on his fourth team in his young career coming into the 2024 season. After Kirk Cousins' departure, the Vikings signed him to a one-year deal. The Vikings then drafted J.J. McCarthy with the 10th overall pick in hopes of him being their future quarterback.
McCarthy is not quite ready for the NFL level, and it seems the Vikings want to ease him into the starting role. This allows Darnold to show that he did improve, like some say, after his season of being a backup for the 49ers. Darnold will have a great group around him, including wide receivers Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison and running back Aaron Jones.
If Darnold can keep the starting job long enough, Tight End T.J. Hockenson will work his way back from injury. Throughout his career, Darnold hasn’t been great with the deep ball and tends to work better with plays designed for yards after catch, which Vikings had the lowest rate of yards being after the catch last season.
Darnold is an exciting player to watch for 2 QB leagues as the job is currently his to lose, and even in 1 QB league, if you plan on streaming your QB position, you should still not have a pick of decent value spent on him.
