Samaje Perine Fantasy Value Is Past Its Prime
Perine is a tricky fantasy evaluation this season due to cap-casualty discussions regarding which of the Denver RBs will get the ax in order for them to save money. Perine has higher cap savings if released, making Perine someone to watch.
However, he does offer several benefits, such as veteran experience and being a receiving threat out of the backfield. He had 50 receptions for 455 yards (9.1 yards per reception) last year, and his last season in Cincinnati further supports that.
This makes his PPR appeal interesting but not exciting. With only 4 weeks in the top 24, Perine has a scary floor and little ceiling at this stage in his career. His work on the ground was nothing special either, with 53 carries for 238 yards (4.49 yards per carry) and only one touchdown.
Even if he is released, it's not out of the question that an RB-needy team could give him a call before the season starts. Reports have been leaking out of Broncos camp that either he or Javonte Williams will be released depending on how training camp goes for the two players.
Our consensus projections for Perine in the 2024 season are 48 carries for 215 yards and 1 rushing touchdown. As well as 32 receptions, 213 yards, and 1 touchdown.
