Saquon Barkley Could Have CMC-Type Impact On Philly
Saquon Barkley is finally free of the weight of the world as the Giant's only weapon on offense; he is also fully healthy. He joins bitter divisional rival Philadelphia Eagles. Philly has the exact opposite offensive composition with high-tier protection, elite receiving weapons, a high-level dual-threat QB, and a play-caller whose system is conducive to fantasy success all over the field.
Even as a part of the Giants when healthy, Barkley has finished RB2, RB10, RB6, and RB12 in half PPR scoring. Last season, he had 5 RB1 finishes, 3 RB2 finishes, and 5 RB3 or worse finishes. He showed everything last season from ceiling to consistency and a low floor due to a stagnant offense. Philly tried to have an impact RB1 last year with a lesser back in D’Andre Swift, this time they got themselves a true superstar at the position. Barkley’s change of scenery could be a CMC-like situation in terms of production.
Philly has typically been a team that utilizes a timeshare, but Kellen Moore has always been a one-back type of guy. Kenneth Gainwell and Will Shipley shouldn't have more than 15% of the touches combined. Barkley will have to deal with Hurts and his carry share, along with his incredible usage at the goal line.
Since becoming a starter, Hurts has had 10, 13, and 15 rushing touchdowns. However, a big reason the Eagles went out and signed Barkley was to minimize Hurts’ rushing usage to preserve his longevity, so seeing his rushing attempts and touchdowns scaled back would make sense.
Barkley’s ADP is hovering around 35 in Superflex dynasty leagues, which is the perfect place to draft him. If healthy, he should be no worse than a high-end RB2, but there is a world where he takes the ground game over in one of the better offenses in the league. He has a true league-winning upside.
Our consensus projections for Barkley in the 2024 season are 272 carries for 1,224 yards and 8 touchdowns. In the receiving game, his consensus projection is 54 receptions for 417 yards and 2 touchdowns.
